This brochure contains information to help you select your placement for next year. Before reading, please

At the Placement Fair all projects, committees, and fundraisers will update you on their activities and answer
questions. Please remember to inform your Placement Advisor if you will have a change in your membership
status for next year. Submit your list of preferences (in order) for the committee you wish to serve on next
league year. Your specific role/duties will be discussed and assigned between you and your committee chair at
your first committee meeting of the new league year.
PLACEMENT PHILOSOPHY AND GUIDELINES
PLACEMENT PHILOSOPHY: The Placement Philosophy of the Junior League of Eugene encompasses the
concepts of training, personal growth and voluntarism. The Junior League of Eugene has a placement policy of choice
with guidance. The Placement Advisor serves as a Member’s advocate in League. Emphasis is on the development of
the Member as an individual, as well as balancing her needs with those of the League. Participation in the community
along with involvement in League projects and committees is encouraged.

COOKBOOK FUNDRAISER COMMITEE
COMMITTEE
DESCRIPTIONS – ROLE AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE – Six (6) placements
Committee Time Commitment:
 June-to-June
 Attend Incoming-Outgoing Committee Meeting in June
 Monthly Committee meetings and other meetings as needed
 Approximately 4-8 hours per month per placement
Committee Function:
 Develop and maintain effective communications both internally and externally.
 Work in close collaboration with the Communications Vice President to organize and maintain a
PR/Marketing plan for promoting all projects and fundraisers
 Develop effective and efficient ways to communicate information to members as well as obtain member input
and feedback.
Examples of some key tasks:
 Prepared and send weekly e-blast and special e-blasts
 Regularly monitor and update JLE website to keep info accurate and current
 Prepare and produce yearbook – manage membership lists for mailings
 Complete mailing jobs as assigned such as the annual campaign letter, event invitations, thank you letters to
vendors and donors, etc.
 Prepare, produce and distribute Vignette
 Sell advertising to new, current and past advertisers for the Vignette, obtain and manage advertising agreements
 Assist committees when they are designing and producing materials for promotion. Help obtain the most cost
efficient solution and ensure a consistent message to the public. Assist with press releases and other media
coverage of projects and events
 Manage volunteer sign-up system (Jooners) used for projects, fundraisers, etc.
E-BLAST & WEBSITE COORDINATOR – 1 placement
Placement Time Commitment: Approximately 4-6 hours/week
Reporting and Responsibilities:
 The E-Blast and Website Coordinator reports to the Communications Committee Chair and is a member of the
Communications Committee.












Continually review and improve ways in which the Website can be used to inform both the Membership and the
Community of JLE activities.
Update Web as needed with League events.
Distribute and communicate the league’s Internal Marketing Plan to members...
Send out weekly E-blasts to general membership.
Attend all committee meetings.
Work in close collaboration with the Content and Vignette editor to ensure articles and the Vignette are published
on the website.
Work in close collaboration with the Communications Vice President to organize a PR/Marketing plan for
promoting all projects and fundraisers.
Recommended skills:
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Must have regular access to internet and knowledge of internet/email system.
Familiarity with WordPress or similar blogging application and familiarity with social media required.
Self-motivation is a must.
COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT COMMITTEES – Thirteen (13) placements
Committee time commitment:




June -June.
Attend Incoming/Outgoing meeting in June
Monthly committee meeting and other meetings as needed
Approximately 4-8 hours per month per placement
Committee Structure and Function: There are two sub-committees that comprise the larger Community Enrichment
Committee. One committee and chair will oversee community projects/‘Done-in-a Day’ projects, focusing on meeting
the needs of children in alternate care. The other, FAAPA committee will collaborate with the Foster Family
Association, Department of Human Services, and other agencies to identify the needs of foster children and their
families. Both committee chairs will work together with their CEC VP to explore other opportunities for JLE to
increase community awareness and advocate strengthening the system.
Done-In-A-Day Committee – Eight (8) placements
Examples of key tasks:
 Identify, develop, and manage projects/drives/events in coordination with the Done-in-a-Day Chair. In the
past, this has included our backpack drive, pumpkin patch opportunity, Thanksgiving drive and others.
 Communicate with General Membership and the Communications Committee regarding events and how the
public and Membership can participate.
 Send requests for press releases and volunteers to the Communications Committee
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Placement time commitment: TBD
Reporting & Responsibilities:
 Report directly to the Committee Chair.
 Work collaboratively with all committees needing volunteers to help recruit volunteers and instruct volunteers on
when/where they should be.
 Is responsible for recognizing membership for their volunteerism through the membership committee.
 Is in charge of coordinating volunteers for ‘Done in a Day projects’ as well as the anchor project.
Recommended skills:
 Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
Foster and Adoptive Parent Association Committee – Five (5) placements
Examples of key tasks:




Attend monthly FAAPA meetings (3rd Monday of every month) and committee meetings. Oversee all
responsibilities pertaining to FAAPA nights including, but not limited to:
o Preparing/distributing snack
o Prepare/oversee crafts and other activities
o Choose/book entertainment, educator, etc.
Communicate with General Membership and the Communications Committee regarding volunteer
opportunities and how the public and Membership can participate. Station/assign and train volunteers at
FAAPA monthly meetings
Work collaboratively with community partners to assess the need, resources required to meet the need, and
determines if/how JLE can assist based on her knowledge of JLE’s resource and strengths.
If/when appropriate for JLE to exit this project, FAAPA committee will help develop a transition plan.
COOKBOOK FUNDRAISER COMMITTEE – Five (5) placements
Committee Time Commitment:
 June-to-June.
 Attend Incoming-Outgoing Committee Meeting in June
 Monthly Cookbook Committee meetings and other meetings as needed.
 Recommended for members with availability to meet and contact vendors during the day
 Approximately 4-8 hours per month per placement
Committee Function: Provides financial support to JLE through promotion and sales of JLE cookbooks. Conducts
operations of the JLE Cookbook Business A Taste of Oregon and Cooking from the Coast to the Cascades.
Examples of key tasks:






Plan, organize and execute Cookbook Committee marketing plan, including calling on existing wholesale
accounts and marketing the cookbooks to establish new accounts.
Conduct day-to-day business operations such as providing support with order processing, office organization,
customer relations and correspondence as needed.
Track sales, direct invoicing (via Finance VP) and track inventory.
Work with current distributors and research other possible distribution contracts.
Coordinate with active JLE members and sustainers to promote and sell cookbooks.
Make arrangements for staffing and logistics of promotional events.
FUNDRAISING EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEE – Nine (9) Placements
Committee Time Commitment:
 June-to-June.
 Attend Incoming-Outgoing Committee Meeting in June
 Monthly FEP Committee meetings and other meetings as needed.
 Approximately 6-8 hours per week (work load increases leading up to events)
Committee Function: Facilitate the execution of Bowl Bound Raffle Fundraiser (December). Facilitate any other
fundraisers as they develop, such as 2-3 smaller fundraising events in Spring.
Examples of key tasks:
 Attend committee meetings
 Work with chair and assistant chair to develop a business plan and budget associated with each event.
 Coordinate the details of any JLE fundraising events
 Coordinate and manage details of the Bowl Bound Raffle
 Work with the event coordinators and sponsorship liaison to organize and execute the marketing effort for
the League’s fundraisers.
 Coordinate with the Communications Committee as needed on the PR and marketing efforts.















Work with media designer to update event marketing material as needed.
Work with sponsor liaison to secure media sponsors for any JLE fundraising events
Work with media sponsor to execute marketing plan as appropriate.
Cultivate relationships with sponsors/potential sponsors. Including all correspondence.
Gather sponsor materials needed for events.
Facilitate communication between the Junior League of Eugene and sponsors.
Secure sponsors as needed by any JLE committee or board
Coordinate expenses and donations with the VP of Finance
Ensure sponsors overall satisfaction.
Keep an accurate notebook/file of all pertinent information.
Responsible for coordination of solicitation and donation management.
Oversee outside and inter-league marketing of JLE fundraising events.
Collaborate with communications to create marketing plans for JLE fundraisers.
Oversee inter-league communications
Responsible for fundraising league dollars in conjunction with budget set by board
Recommended skills: Ability to plan, organize and work well with people. Creative and task-oriented . Able to multitask, and problem solve. Enthusiastic, and committed to the overall mission of JLE
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE – Five (5) Placements
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Committee Time Commitment:
 June-to-June.
 Attend Incoming-Outgoing Committee Meeting in June
 Monthly Membership Committee meetings and other meetings as needed.
 Approximately 4-8 hours per month per placement
Committee Function: Train new members on JLE mission, structure, governance, operations, community outreach
projects (past and present). Conduct ongoing membership recruitment.
Examples of key tasks:
 Process new member applications.
 Plan, organize and facilitate monthly committee meetings.
 Create and facilitate new member trainings.
 Develop a plan for a new member project in the spring.
 Expand membership recruitment.
 Encourage new member participation in JLE activities.
 Support Spring project.
NOMINATING AND PLACEMENT COMMITTEE – Six (6) placements
Committee Time Commitment:
 June-to-June.
 Attend Incoming-Outgoing Committee Meeting in June
 Monthly Membership Committee meetings and other meetings as needed.
 Approximately 4-8 hours per month per placement
Committee Function:
 Nominating - Slate Board, Committee Chairs and Early Placements. Slate delegates for trainings. Study
conference and training opportunities and determine whether JLE should participate.

Placement - Interview all active members at regular intervals through Fall and Spring questionnaires. Maintain
uniform membership records. Handle all aspects of membership placements, including the initial placement
and follow up throughout the year.
Examples of key tasks:
 Speak at meetings to educate Members about (1) leadership opportunities, including AJLI Association positions
(2) the nominating process and (3) slating.
 Prepare slates for Officers, Council and Committee Chairs.
 Assist with travel arrangements and registrations for conference delegates.
 Oversee and administer Fall and Spring Questionnaires to membership.
 Oversee status changes and filling of placement openings.
 Track membership participation consistent with membership menu
 Educate Members about placement opportunities.
 Plan Placement Fair in May.
 Place membership for the coming year.
 Produce and distribute Placement Brochure.
 Responsible for preparing and maintaining name tags and sign in sheets at general meetings.
 Attend New Member Orientation and Trainings (as needed).
 Maintain contact w/advisees throughout the year.
PLACEMENT ADVISORS
Placement Time Commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours/week.
Responsibilities:
 Attend Nominating/Placement committee meetings.
 Arrive early to General Meetings to staff sign-in table and greet advisees
 New member PAs should also attend New Member Orientation & Training meetings as needed
 Keep advisees’ permanent records and membership participation, consistent with membership menu
 Assist in slating board, chairs, placement advisors and other early placements.
 Assist in placing membership.
 Assist in planning Placement Faire.
 Attend New Member Orientation and Trainings (as needed).
 Maintain contact w/advisees throughout the year.
 Conduct Fall and Spring Questionnaires of all advisees.
Required:
 Must have served a minimum of two active years in the Junior League of Eugene.
Recommended Skills:
 Knowledge of JLE structure, philosophy and procedures
 Ability to listen and be objective
 Organizational, communication and problem solving skills
 Ability to keep information confidential
TRAINING AND EVENTS COMMITTEE(INCLUDING JUNE DINNER)
- Seven (7) placements
Committee Time Commitment:
 June-to-June.
 Attend Incoming-Outgoing Committee Meeting in June
 Monthly Membership Committee meetings and other meetings as needed.
 Approximately 4-8 hours per month per placement
Committee Function:
 Training & Events - Meet training needs of League and our community. Make arrangements for all General
Meetings, schedule trainers, and plan April Training.

June Dinner - Plan, organize, and execute June Dinner. Present the option to membership and
new/provisional members to assist with June Dinner planning.
Examples of key tasks:
 Develop and coordinate JLE trainings. Arrange for speakers at General Meetings, workshops, and the
introduction of guest speakers. Work with President and board to help incorporate their training needs/ideas for
the year.
 Make all arrangements for each General Meeting, including scheduling room, set up for speakers (screens,
projector), decorating, planning and arrangement of food.
 Plan and assist with the all-League social events, including the December Social and April Training.


Plan, organize and lead the June Dinner event
Promote June Dinner event to active members and sustainers. Recruit helpers (planners, etc.) as needed.
