FireSmart – Approved Projects – November 2014 Call for Proposals
(1)Whitecourt FireSmart Project – Zone 2, (Town of Whitecourt); Term of project –April
2015 to December 2015, FireSmart Discipline – Vegetation / Fuel Management.
The objective of this program is to reduce wildfire risk by completing 11.1 ha of vegetation
management treatments on provincial and town land within the Town of Whitecourt.
(2)Whitecourt FireSmart Project – Zone 3, (Town of Whitecourt);Term of project –April
2015 to December 2015, FireSmart Discipline – Vegetation / Fuel Management.
The objective of this program is to reduce wildfire risk by completing 16.1 ha of vegetation
management treatments on provincial and town land within the Town of Whitecourt.
(3)Bergen Area Wildfire Preparedness Guide (Mountain View County);Term of project –May
2015 to December 2015, FireSmart Discipline – Planning.
The objective is to complete a Wildfire Preparedness Guide for the Hamlet of Bergen and
adjacent rural subdivisions and farmsteads.
(4) FireSmart Planning (Rocky View County); Term of project –May 2015 to April 2016,
FireSmart Discipline – Planning.
The objective is to complete a Wildfire Preparedness Guide for the Hamlet of Bragg Creek
and surrounding area and a Wildfire Mitigation Strategy for the northwest quadrant of Rocky
View County.
(5) Hinton Community Fire Hazard Reduction, (Town of Hinton); Term of project –April
2015 to October 2015, FireSmart Discipline – Vegetation / Fuel Management.
The objective of this program is to reduce wildfire risk by completing 12.8 ha of vegetation
management treatments on forested reserve town lands within the Town of Hinton.

(6) Peavine Metis Settlement Fuel Reduction Management, (Peavine Metis Settlement);;
Term of project –April 2015 to March 2016; FireSmart Discipline – Vegetation/Fuel
Management.
The objective of this program is to reduce wildfire risk by completing approximately 71.0
ha of vegetation management treatments within the Peavine Metis Settlement.
(7) Gift Lake Vegetation Management, (Gift Lake Metis Settlement); Term of project –
February 2015 to March 2015; FireSmart Discipline – Vegetation/Fuel Management.
The objective of this program is to reduce wildfire risk by completing approximately 16.3
ha of vegetation management treatments within the Gift Lake Metis Settlement.
(8) Public Education; Chipping Events, (County of Grande Prairie); Term of project –
March 2015 to June 2015, FireSmart Discipline – Public Education
The objective is to communicate FireSmart strategies and encourage community
participation through participation in two regional tradeshows and by conducting four
community chipping events in the vicinity of rural subdivisions which were determined
through previous hazard assessments to have high or extreme hazard.
(9) Gift Lake FireSmart Education, (Gift Lake Metis Settlement); Term of project – March
2015 to September 2015; FireSmart Discipline – Public Education.
The objective of this program is to increase community awareness of the content of
recently completed Wildfire Preparedness Guide and Wildfire Mitigation Strategy. The
proposal identifies two target groups – school aged children and community residents.
