PROFILE OF M.RAMPUR BLOCK
(Established : 01-10-1959)
Introduction. M.Rampur is one of the 13 Blocks of Kalahandi district and is located 60 kms away
from district HQs i.e. Bhawanipatna beside Bhawanipatna to Bhubaneswar state highway. (Latitude
20 °11' North and Longitude 83° 14' East). This Block comprises of 15 GPs out of which 4GPs have
a considerable hilly (ghati) tract. This Block is endowed with natural and scenic beauty amidst dense
forests, steep mountains, mind blowing fountains, all these and many more. Tribal Population in 4
GPs generate curiosity, present a true demographic picture and diverse biodiversity splendor. This
Block added a feather on its cap in the Year 2006-06 by winning cash award from PR Dept. Govt. of
Odisha of Rupees Two Laks for its best performance in preceding year in the Southern Revenue
Division. This Block comprises of nearly 40% ST Population and 15% SC Population with literacy
rate of 52.81% as against District literacy rate of 45.29% as per 2001 census.
With extreme climatic conditions, scanty rainfall, 45% of its 894 sq. km area being located in
hilly tracts, drought prone feature, low female literacy, malaria prone area and many such problems,
this Block is marching ahead with developmental activities and implementing a host of State
sponsored and Central sponsored projects/programmes on expected lines.
