All livestock must have mandatory inoculation for rabies and show
certificate dated at least 30 days prior to Oxford Fair. (for Horses
only) EHV-1 Vaccination required, no less that 14 days or more than 6
months before entering our facility.

RULES
All teamsters who are to compete in contest shall have their teams
ready at the published starting time. All classes shall be closed
after the positions are drawn. Classes shall star as nearly as
possible to published time.
Check weighing will be allowed prior to the official weigh in. All
weighing shall be done in the forenoon if possible. Team must have
on halters and shoes.
Measuring shall be in straight line to the nearest point on the
drag. Line to line measuring will be allowed. The front of the
drag must touch the line before turning. To get the full line
measure, the drag must be turned more than half way.
Team shall stay hooked to the drag at all times. No unhitching and
re-hitching may be allowed.
An actual separation, breaking or bending of equipment shall
constitute a breakdown. Any team breaking down may take the
distance pulled or return to the last position and pull over. Only
one breakdown may be allowed.
Time limits shall be 5 minutes unless otherwise agreed upon by
teamsters. Time starts when the drag is moved. The time limit to
hook on in distance pulls shall be 3 minutes.
On horses, the very light use of the reins on the hind quarters only
and no over and under may be allowed. No whip, braids or goads may
be allowed. Reins shall not be doubled up. No electrical or
electrical devices may be allowed. No open bridles may be allowed.
Ponies shall not be struck except in a sweepstakes then they may be
struck with a cap or bare open hand.
On oxen, the use of the goad shall be very light. The goad shall
have no braid in it, only a plain yoke and chain or pole that may be
pulled. All chains shall be covered to the hook. No plastic goads
may be allowed. The goad stick must not be over 4 feet long and
must not exceed ½ inch in diameter on the small end. The goad stick
may be taped but not weighted. The stick may be used lightly on the
face to control the oxen but not around the eyes.
Any number of helpers will be allowed to help hitch. After hitch
on, there shall be only 1 helper. The helper shall stay behind the

drag unless needed to help the teamster with snarls or turns. On
oxen, the helper must stay behind the drag at all times after the
hitch on. The
helper shall not have a stick.
10. All participants shall be properly dressed. Proper language must
be used at all times. Any participant under the influence of liquor
shall be disqualified from the contest. Tests may be made to
determine intoxication. The drinking of intoxicating beverages by
participants in and around the ring is prohibited.
11. The splitting of teams shall be decide by the fair association or
other sponsors.
12. Use of drugs or stimulants on any competing animals is
prohibited. The fair or person conducting the contest reserves the
right to test any animal. The owner and teamster found to have used
a drug on any competing animal shall be barred from pulling for 2
years as required by section 74 subsection 4.
13. No heading of horses or oxen may be allowed. Stepping over the
rail counts as a hitch. Five minutes shall be allowed for hitching.
Three attempts may be made in that period. Time taken out to
position the drag for the next pull shall not be counted. Teamsters
may not be changed after the first load is pulled. Any team
deliberately driven over the rail will be disqualified from the
contest. In case of a tie on the longest distance, the 2nd longest
distance already pulled will take first place. Every man must
remain quiet after hitching on. One inch pulled shall constitute a
hitch.
14. There shall be no heading of horses after a pull starts unless
there is a mix up, snarl or breakdown.
15. A Substantial barrier shall be maintained at the end of the ring
toward which the pull is proceeding so as to prevent or
substantially impede runaways.
16. There will be 100 pounds tolerance on draft steers and oxen on
and after Labor Day weekend.
17. Any animal which is thin, dehydrated, shows open sores or is lame
will be disqualified.
18. Before a team is allowed to pull, the owner shall provide a
certificate of liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.
Bring a copy to leave for the superintendent.
19. Before a team is allowed to pull, the owner shall provide a copy
of a rabies certificate.
These rules have been adopted by the O.C.A.C from L.D 2132
Other Rules of the department
1. Horse: All teams shall be weighed free at the society’s scales.
Weighing will begin at 7:00am only one official weigh in by same
team.
2. Oxen: Weighing at 7:00am, Wednesday. Only one official weigh in by
the same team. Weigh in not required for sweepstakes teams. Check
weigh may be done at discretion of department head. No animals

shall be entered twice in same class.
3. 3 Horse Hitch: Any horse must weigh at least 1400lbs. They must
hitch side by side and be driven by one man.
4. Drawing on the grounds for practice will not be allowed.
5. The committee reserves the right to intercept all rules and
regulation and to accept or reject any entry.
6. An exercise area is provided for pulling animals. Please use this
area in the interest of safety. This regulation will be strictly
enforced.
7. After being unloaded, trucks and vans must be parked in the parking
lot provided for this purpose. Due to fire hazard, ect. This rule
will be strictly enforced.
8. Any animals caught under the drag shall be disqualified.
