Ms. Hanvey Room 101 PBLCS Office: 870-534-0277 Cell: 502-320-4770 mhanvey@lighthouse-academies.org Welcome back scholars and families! I hope you had a wonderful summer. I’m so glad you will be in my class this year. You all learned a lot in first grade, but this year we’re going to grow our brains even bigger! About Me I grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky and graduated from college at Northern Kentucky University. I have one brother and one sister, who is also an elementary teacher. I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl because I LOVE school and I want my scholars to love it as much as I do. When I was in second grade, I played soccer, I had my tonsils taken out, and my favorite book was Harry Potter. I moved to Arkansas this summer and I LOVE it! My favorite things about AR are the people, the fish fries, and the beautiful scenery. I’m looking forward to becoming a part of the community so you will see me at little league games and community events. I live in Pine Bluff with my friends who are also teachers and my puppy named Zola. My Educational Philosophy Daily Schedule 8:00-8:15 Morning Meeting 8:15-9:45 ELA 9:45-10:25 Focus 10:25-11:10 Social Studies 11:10-11:30 DEAR 11:30-12:00 Lunch 12:00-12:30 SPARK 12:30-2 Math 2:00-3:00 Prep 3:00-3:45 Science 3:45-4:00 Closing Circle I believe that all scholars should be in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment. I use activities like small and whole group discussion, hands on work, and arts infusion to bring meaningful learning to the classroom. Every scholar is a bright and shining star, and I want everyone to SHINE in the classroom. I believe that a classroom is a community, so all parents are invited to observe and volunteer my class. To observe a class, you must schedule an appointment with me and check in the office upon arrival. To volunteer, you must fill out the volunteer portion of the info sheet and check in the office upon arrival. Classroom Expectations I hold high expectations for my scholars, both academically and behaviorally, and will hold each scholar accountable for meeting those expectations. A behavior chart will be sent home every night to inform you of your scholar’s behavior. I expect your scholar to be in school every day on time and in uniform so they can learn as much as possible this year. The only acceptable absences are for religious observances, illness, and family emergence. Other special provisions are given to military families. If your scholar misses a day, they must complete the missing assignments in a period of time equal to the length of the absence. For example, if your child misses two days, they have two school days to make up their missed work. In addition, scholars who have missed any tests will be expected to begin making up tests on the first day after the makeup period ends. To learn more about Lighthouse procedures, please read the PBLCS Scholar Family Handbook.
