Consultant Paediatric Histopathologist JOB DESCRIPTION a. To practice as Consultant Perinatal and Paediatric Pathologist, to cover the workload emanating from Cavan General Hospital (15 hours per week) and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda (15 hours per week) and the Rotunda Hospital (9 hours per week), the laboratory, autopsy and reporting components of which will be based on the Rotunda Hospital Site. b. The appointee will be required to participate in the existing consultant rota for the provision of Perinatal and Paediatric Pathology at the Rotunda Hospital required in accordance with the schedule approved by the Consultant Appointments Unit, the Department of Laboratory Medicine Rotunda Hospital as set out within the Clinical Directorate Service Plan and, in line with policies as specified by the Rotunda Hospital Board and the Boards of Cavan General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. This will include visiting rights to Temple St Children’s University Hospital (TSCUH). The appointee will provide holiday cover in the absence of a consultant colleague in the Rotunda or TSCUH. c. Perform specialised diagnostic perinatal and paediatric pathology work as required in accordance with the schedule approved by the Consultant Appointments Unit, the Department of Laboratory Medicine Rotunda Hospital and the Boards of Cavan General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda including attendance on site at MDT meetings in the DNE regional hospitals and the provision of expertise as required. d. To work in close collaboration with all staff charged with responsibility for the delivery of perinatal and paediatric pathology services e. Provide consultation service if so requested f. To participate in development of and undertake all duties and functions pertinent to the practice of perinatal and paediatric pathology as set out within the Clinical Directorate Service Plan and in line with policies as specified by the Rotunda Hospital Board and Cavan General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda g. To ensure that duties and functions are undertaken in a manner that minimises delays for patients and possible disruption of services. h. To work within the framework of the Rotunda Hospital plan and /or levels of service (volume, types etc.) as determined by Rotunda Hospital, Cavan General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda i. To formally review the execution of the Clinical Directorate Service Plan with the Clinical Director / Employer periodically. The Clinical Directorate Service Plan shall be reviewed periodically at the request of the Consultant or Clinical Director / Employer. The Consultant may initially seek internal review of the determinations of the Clinical Director regarding the Service Plan. j. To participate in the development and operation of the Clinical Directorate structure and in such management or representative structures as are in place or being developed. The Consultant shall receive training and support to enable him/her to participate fully in such structures. k. To provide, as appropriate, consultation in the Consultant’s area of designated expertise in respect of patients of other Consultants at their request. l. To ensure in consultation with the Clinical Director that appropriate medical cover is available at all times having due regard to the implementation of the European Working Time Directive as it relates to doctors in training. m. To participate as a right and obligation in selection processes for non-Consultant Hospital Doctors and other staff as appropriate. The Employer will provide training as required. The Employer shall ensure that a Consultant representative of the relevant specialty / sub-specialty is involved in the selection process. n. To participate in clinical audit and proactive risk management and facilitate production of all data/information required for same in accordance with regulatory, statutory and corporate policies and procedures. o. To participate in and facilitate production of all data/information required to validate delivery of duties and functions and inform planning and management of service delivery.
