We meet in the GHD (formerly Winzler & Kelley) conference room located at 718 3rd Street in Eureka. Dates Topics, Speakers, and Locations August 14 Get the inside story on California’s LAFCos from Colette Metz, Administrator of the Humboldt Local Agency Formation Commission. Colette will expose what’s behind the weird name and explain what a LAFCo actually does. September 11 Specific Plans are new to Humboldt County. They can provide a valuable tool for developers, planners, and elected officials by providing more “specific” detail on a particular area. The size of the area can be very small or very large and the level of detail included can be fairly broad concepts, regulations, as well as zoning and development standards. Mike Nelson and Randy Rouda of LACO Associates will discuss what will be involved in preparing the one of the first specific plans in Humboldt County, its purpose, and what it will address. October 9 Tracing the edge of Humboldt Bay by kayak and on foot, Aldaron Laird recently completed a GIS and photographic record of Humboldt Bay to serve as a baseline against which vulnerabilities to sea level rise were assessed. Aldaron made some surprising discoveries and spent a few harrowing hours on the water. Highlights of his journey and vulnerability assessment will be presented during this lecture presentation. More sessions will be scheduled. Your suggestions for topics are welcome.
