COURSE DESCRIPTION
Our youth group name is Rainbow. Filming Racism is a training course aims to promote mutual
understanding and diversity. Training course aim to create a documentary with actors of different
ethnicities and backgrounds in order to promote social cohesion and diversity.
Moreover the training course is about effective work with young people on a European and
international level, in the framework of Erasmus + program. Training course will develop capacities
of young people in the field of intercultural youth work by strengthening participants’ awareness of
cultural diversity and their ability to successfully work with intercultural youth groups, by developing
knowledge on the formation of identity and the impact of different cultural values, by providing a
platform to share experiences and knowledge, by giving methodology and methods on how to
stimulate a fruitful effect out of cultural diversity for youth and surrounding society and to manage
conflicts arising from cultural diversity. During the process of this project young people from
different countries will experience living and working together and realize different workshops about
identities, conflict management, diversity and harmony. We will use methods of Non-formal
education such as experiential learning, simulation, peer-to-peer education, groups and individual
works. Meanwhile implementing cultural nights we will be create a space to learn about other
cultures.
It takes place from December 9th to 16th 2014, in Kars, Turkey. Youth leaders and volunteers and
activist from different countries will explore the roots of their identities, diversity and sense of living
in harmony and learn how to deal effectively with cultural diversity in youth projects.
Expected outcomes: We will have documentary that will promote diversity and social cohesion. We
are expecting to invite youth from local area to show movie in local cinema and then have debate of
understanding of identity and diversity in the frame of tolerance, mutual understanding and respect.
LANGUAGE
The language of the course will be English.
THE VENUE
We will share this information in two weeks. At the moment we are still in process of
searching.
INFORMATION OF CITY
Kars Province (Turkish: Kars ili) is a province of Turkey,
located in the northeastern part of the country. It shares
part of its border with the Republic of Armenia.
The provinces of Ardahan and Iğdır were until the 1990s
part of Kars Province.
History:
In ancient times, Kars (Armenian:) was part of the
province of Ayrarat in the Kingdom of Armenia. The first
occupants were the ministers of Vanand. Kars was their
main residence and fortress. In 928,Kars became the
Capital of Armenia. In 968,the capital of Armenia
became Ani but Kars remained the Capital of the feudal
kingdom of Vanand 9th to 13th century, even during the
Mongol invasion, Kars made significant progress, and even constructed the very famous (Aranik)
fortress.
TRAVEL COSTS
We will reimburse travel cost during training course. However, in case we will not receive project
grant on time from NA then we will transfer via bank. We will let you know this in advance.
! Note: Reimbursement of travel costs will only be done upon presentation of all (including
return tickets) original tickets, receipt/invoices and boarding passes. Please print before all
documents, which are related to travel expenses. This means that once home after the training,
participants will be asked to send the originals of all return documents and boarding passes. Please
remember to bring the original invoices – there will be no reimbursement without the original
invoices and tickets with indicated Names of travellers, description of the journey, indication of cost
and currency and date of travel.
Please do not lose your boarding passes; you will need them for reimbursement of travel
cost.
!! Note: If participants pay for their ticket with a credit card, they are requested to bring along
the confirmation of payment (i.e. credit card slip and/or bank statement).
!!! Note: Reimbursement will be done in EUR, regardless of the currency indicated on the ticket
and receipt/invoice. Any tickets purchased in a local currency other than EUR, will then be
converted and calculated according to the exchange rate of the month when the grant agreement
for this project will be signed by the NA, as stated in the official European Commission web-site at
http://ec.europa.eu/budget/inforeuro/index.cfm?Language=en
!!!! Note: Please check for the travel budget limits at the end of this document.
!!!!! Note: Finally, please make copies (or even better, scan or take photographs) of all tickets and
invoices and email these to gokkusagik@gmail.com before attending the training. This will be very
helpful to organisers to begin processing the financial and reimbursement data so that all payments
may be made as efficiently as possible.
The following only applies to participants travelling by plane:
You should arrive to Kars before midnight of 9th December 2014 and leave on 16th February.
You can stay up to 3 days before or after the project. You should arrange your own accommodation
then. We are not responsible for the time you spend in Istanbul out of project period.
We will reimburse during training course in Cash. However, we still did not receive the
grant from Turkish National Agency yet so there is a possibility to reimburse travel cost
via bank after the training course. We kindly ask you to bring money you will need to
spend for your own goods during project. We will inform you in advance about how we
will reimburse the travel cost.
TRAVELING AND ARRIVAL TO VENUE
There is one airport in Kars. You can also travel with bus but keep it in min that it will take 20 hours
from Istanbul. So we suggest you use plane.
We will send detailed information about how to get venue from airport and travel opportunities.
VISA ARRANGEMENTS
Turkey is not yet in the EU so please bring along your passports! Some of you may need visa. You
can get visa in airport. Please check the board before the passport control if you need visa or not. It
costs 15 euro.
Visa cost will be reimbursed %100 when it is presented.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Health insurance is not provided and will not be reimbursed by the organisers. All participants are
strongly advised to purchase private travel insurance, as costs of private health care in Turkey are
quite high.
WEATHER
The weather in December is very cold in Kars so please bring your warm clothes. It
snows a lot in east part of Turkey.
PREPARATION
1- Please prepare a short presentation (max 10 mins) regarding the racism problem in your
country. Here you can also mention about what NGOs are doing about this. The projects,
campaigns etc.
2- Short movie about racism: this movie should be up to 3 minutes max.
3- Documents about your organization.
4- For intercultural night. You are free to bring food, drinks, snacks to present during
intercultural night. Please bear in mind that it will not be possible to cook something. You
can also show dance, play music etc.
5- You do not need to bring towel. It will provide by hotel.
