Motivation and Psychology Welcome to "Motivation and Psychology," a web-based experiment that examines some of the finer points of what motivates a person. Consent Form This study involves a web-based experiment designed to understand how people are motivated. Participation in the study typically takes 50 minutes and is strictly confidential. Participants begin by answering a series of questions, after which they watch several randomly assigned video vignettes. These vignettes involve either direct motivational prompts or neutral contexts. After watching a random sample of 9 vignettes, participants rate whether or not the vignettes were meaningful. All responses are treated as confidential and your responses will not be linked to your identity. You are being asked to provide your email addresses. This email addresses is not linked to your responses and is only used to avoid duplicate surveys. Be aware that confidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible. There is always the risk of compromising privacy, confidentiality and/or anonymity when using email and the internet. However, the risk to your physical, emotion, social, professional or financial well-being is considered to be less than minimal There are no direct benefits to you as a result of participation. The research may result in better understanding of what motivates a person. If you are completing this study through the Department of Psychology’s research pool (SONA), you will receive 0.5 of research participation credit for taking part in the study. You may write a three-page research paper if they prefer not to participate in this study. Other visitors to this web site are welcome to complete the study, although they will receive no credit or monetary compensation.
