Activities for Kids is an after school program for children ages 5-11 years old. It includes
activities such as wiffleball, kickball, basketball, volleyball, street hockey, video games,
fooseball, shuffleboard, air hockey, board games, arts and crafts, homework assistance, and
access to computers. The program is in session Monday through Friday from 2:30PM – 5:30PM
with extended hours available until 6:00PM. Transportation from public schools to the
community center is provided.

Activities for Kids operates a recreational program in conjunction with the Julia A. Stark
School after school program. Housed in the gymnasium of Stark School, our staff organizes
tournaments and teaches basic skills and sportsmanship in Kickball, Basketball, Soccer, Football

The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford offers an after school program for children ages 6
and up. The activities include chess, computer room/technology, a junior Lego league, power
hour/homework club, reading partners (mentors), Saturday Academy (tutoring), Stamford
Achieves (tutoring), art, percussion drumming, Cal Ripken baseball, flag football, gym activities,
soccer, KidSafe Karate, wrestling, athlete of the year, healthy habits cooking program, SMART
girls, and SMART moves. Transportation is provided by the Stamford Public School System.
The program runs from September 4th, 2012 to June 14th, 2013. Children ages 6 and 7
meet Monday through Friday, 2:00PM – 6:00PM and Saturday 10:00AM – 4:00PM for $25 a
month. Children ages 8 years old through grade 5 meet Monday through Friday, 2:00PM –
6:00PM and Saturday 10:00AM – 4:00PM for $100 a year. Children of all ages who attend on
Saturday only pay $50 a year. The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford also offers a summer camp,
but information will not be available until May 2013.

The Chester Addison Community Center’s after school program is available for students
in grades K-8 and are grouped according to their grade. Transportation is provided from the
public schools to the CACC center where there is assigned homework and recreation time to
stimulate growth and learning. It provides programs such as chess, cheerleading, cooking,
Mighty Mites basketball, a mentoring program, group counseling, ballet, tennis, drumming,
sailing, and special weekly classes.

The First Presbyterian Church provides an after school program that helps children in
grades K-5 with homework, as well as allotting time for recreational activities such as art, music,

JCC’s After School Care/Kids Place offers care for children in grades K-5, Monday
through Friday until 6:00PM. Transportation is offered from most Stamford Public Schools.
Children are given snacks, homework assistance, and access to sports, arts and crafts, cooking,

The Sea Urchin Extended Day Program provides before and after school care for
elementary school students. It meets Monday through Friday, 7:30AM – 5:20PM and is housed
at, but not run by K.T. Murphy School. The activities include math games, arts and crafts, story
time, and silent reading. Land and Sea programs are based at the K.T. Murphy school and
Science Environmental Awareness activities are held at Cove Island Park as well as K.T.
Murphy. No transportation provided; parents must pick up their children by 5:20PM. The
AM/PM session is $195 per month, the AM session is $105 per month, and the PM session is
$180 per month.

The Mead Farm Horsemanship Riding Program is offered for children ages 4 to 10 years
old. Camps are paid weekly and teach children riding lessons, safety procedures, tacking and
untacking, hoof care, grooming, braiding, trimming, lameness and ailments, proper diet, stall
management, and techniques in bandaging. The dates range from June 3rd to August 30th, 2013.

Formerly known as CTE, NEON’s mission is to provide economically disadvantaged
residents of the greater Norwalk and Stamford area with the range of community, social, and
economic development and emergency assistance services needed to enhance the quality of life,
increase self-sufficiency, and reduce the incidence of poverty. The programs offered in the
Stamford area include education and youth services, workforce development, family services,
and a viewpoint recovery program. The Lathon Wider Community Center provides direct client
services for those individuals with low income. It helps to reduce the physical, psychological,
and economic barriers of low income families.















Summer Academy (K-8th): This program serves approximately 80 students between the
ages of 5 to 13. They participate in academic enrichment, educational field trips, and
structured recreational activities. The program is held for 6 weeks during the months of
July and August between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Academic enrichment takes place in the
morning, and swimming/recreation/cultural activities take place in the afternoon.
After School Academy: Promotes academic enrichment, social development, community
awareness, and recreation for children in K-12. Involves homework assistance,
technology training, character building, personal empowerment, conflict resolution,
diversity and cultural awareness, maintains a strong alliance with youth programming and
the Stamford Public School system, and community service.
Jackie Robinson Baseball: Operates from April to June for children ages 9-12 years old.
Tryouts are held and one team is selected. Children play against other teams and
community centers in the city.
Mighty Might Basketball Program: Sponsored by the Stamford Police Department. This
co-ed league is offered for children ages 5 through high school. Games are held in the
gym from March to May on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. All Star games are
held in May and compete against the West and East division of this league.

literacy program during the month of July.

Our KidCare is a fully licensed after school child care program located in a warm, loving
and safe family home in Stamford, CT for children in grades K-5. Our Kidcare is the realization
of the Crawfords' long term desire to provide a high quality, loving, and nurturing after school
program for children whose parents work long hours. They pick up each child from school every
day and their parents/guardians pick them up from their home each evening. Besides play time,

ROSCCO provides both before and after school activities for children in elementary
school. The program includes aerobics, arts and crafts, chess instruction, food projects, indoor

Yerwood provides an after school program that serves approximately 100 students in
grades K-5. The goal of the program is to improve academic performance and promotion rates
and reduce the number of students requiring remedial summer classes. By working closely with
each child’s elementary school, individual progress is tracked and measured using report cards,
Degrees of Reading Power (DRA)/Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) scores, daily attendance
records, and behavior reports. This model requires a strong partnership between the Center, the
schools, and the parents of the children in the program. Students meet Monday through Friday
from 3:00PM – 6:00PM.

The YMCA offers an after school program to students in grades K-12. It provides
homework assistance, strengthening basic math and reading skills, team building, health and

Chelsea Piers offers various camps during school breaks and vacations for children ages
5 years old and over. Activities include baseball, basketball, soccer, ice skating, rock climbing,
gymnastics, trampolines, and play time in the “Splash Zone,” a 6,000 sq. ft. water play area. The
goal of the Multi-Sport Camp is not only to offer young campers a place to play, but to teach
them a wide range of skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. Through spirited play
geared toward individual ability levels, campers learn skills for multiple sports, gain selfconfidence and acquire a love of sports to match their talents and interests. The camp runs from
8:30AM to 3:45PM.

engage in art projects and science experiments, play recreational games, take music and theater

exceptional staff. A visit from an ice cream truck tops off every fun-filled week. With so much to

With a 400,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art sports complex, Chelsea Piers provides campers of
all ages and abilities a premier summer camp experience. Camps feature expert instruction and
the most dynamic curriculum in the country. Chelsea Piers offers Sport Intensive Camps for
children ages 5 to 12 which include basketball, figure skating, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse,
soccer, squash, tennis, and volleyball. The Multi & Duel-Sport Camps are offered for children
ages 5 to 13 years old. The camps run from June 17th to August 30th, 2013 depending on the
camp chosen.

The Creative Center camp is centered around the visual, performing, and expressive arts.
The emphasis of this four-week program is on creativity and the creative process. The camp is
offered for children ages 6 ½ to 16 years old and runs from June 24th to July 19th, 2013. There are
five class periods daily -- children choose the classes that most interest them. Students explore a
theme through a variety of artistic media, at their choosing, and create projects under the
guidance and teaching of professional artists. Courses may include drawing, painting, graphic
design, musical theatre, rock band, voice, studio recording, movie making, video news,
animation, dance, puppetry, theatre games, radio, improvisation, scene study, Dungeons and
Dragons, creative writing, and more. At the end of the four weeks, there is an Arts Festival at
which students, parents and friends come together to celebrate the creative work of the summer.

Curtain Call offers two programs during the summer. The SummerStock Junior:
Storybook Stages camp is available for children ages 6 to 11. The program focuses on acting,
improv, musical theatre and Shakespeare, while creating a safe and comfortable environment that
promotes confidence and social development. Two sessions are offered, both two weeks long.
Session 1 is from July 22nd to August 2nd, Monday through Friday from 10:00AM – 3:00PM.
Session 2 is from August 5th to August 16th, Monday through Friday from 10:00AM – 3:00PM.
Each two week session is $750.
Summer Youth Theatre 2013 is the second camp available. This year the students will be
performing a production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr. The cast age range is 4th to 8th
grade. Rehearsals begin June 15th, 2013 and productions begin in August.

The ESF Summer Camp offers a Day Camp for children ages 4 to 8 years old. It
provides a variety of activities such as swim instruction, sports, arts and crafts, creative and
performing arts, world tour, science and nature, weekly special events, Fantastic Fridays, Wacky
Wednesdays, martial arts (for grades 1-3), fencing (for grades 2-3), tennis, archery, GaGa,
tournaments, and theme days. The Sports Camp is for children ages 6 to 14. The sports played
include baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, flag football, golf, street hockey, swimming, tennis,
and European team hand ball. ESF also has a Tennis Camp for children ages 6 – 15 years old.
All camps take place from June 17th to August 16th, Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to
3:00PM. Extended hours are also available from 8:00AM – 6:00PM.

The Greenwich Country Day School Summer Camp offers two programs. The Lower
Camp is for children ages 4 and 5 and the Upper Camp is for children ages 6 – 12 years old. The
camp begins on June 24th and extends to August 1st. The Lower Camp meets from 9:00AM to
2:00PM, and the Upper Camp meets from 9:00AM – 4:00pm. The camp requires a minimum
stay of 2 weeks at $550 per week. The campers will get to swim, play, dance, draw, act, build,
experiment, meet new friends, and laugh – all in a setting that will have a camper-to-counselor
ratio of 6-1.

Horizons’ six week intensive K through 8th grade Summer Program serves
approximately 275 children and runs from the last week of June through the first week of
August. The program is a unique blend of academics and enrichment. Unlike most summer
camps, Horizons offers students the opportunity to develop their academic skills through projectbased, experiential activities such as rocket-building and film-making. Unlike traditional summer
school, Horizon complements the academic components of its Summer Program with a broad
range of enrichment opportunities – from woodshop, studio art, and dance to weekly field trips
and several overnight campouts. Students in grades K through 5 have formal swim instruction at
least twice a week. Every afternoon, all Horizon students go swimming, either on campus or at
the many private pools donated by generous local residents. Financial assistance available for
those qualified.

The Italian Center Summer Day Camps offer children an opportunity to develop, grow,
and learn while having fun during the summer months. The Day Camp is for boys and girls
entering kindergarten through 6th grade. This active program is designed to aid children in
mastering the skills to build strong bodies and confidence geared toward fun and allows children
to form long lasting relationships. Some activities include swimming, dance, music, tennis, arts
& crafts, nature, ballfield sports, softball, touch football, soccer, outdoor playground activities,
and fitness. The campers meet Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM with an
extended day option from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Half day camp is also available. The camp runs
from the end of June to the middle of August, but exact dates are not set at this time.

JCC offers an 8 week long summer camp for children in grades K-8. The campers meet
Monday through Friday from 9:00AM – 4:00PM starting June 24th and ending August 16th.
Children are broken up into groups according to their grade level. The morning offers art, sports,
swimming, dancing, and more. In the afternoon, children choose from weekly elective options to
create a schedule they will love. A breakfast club and late afternoon stay is also available for
those families who need it.
A new division of this camp has been created called Hand in Hand which offers a unique
3 week experience for rising 3rd – 6th graders with communication spectrum disorders, including:
high-functioning autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and individuals with sensory
motor integration challenges.

The New Canaan Nature Center has two programs for elementary school students. The

Overtime Athletics offers three camps during the summer months. The Chris Whelan’s
Boys Basketball Camp meets from July 8th to July 12th, 2013 at St. Luke’s School in New
Canaan. The Flag Football Camp offers two sessions; session one meets from June 24th to June
28th and session two is scheduled for July 29th to August 2nd. This camp is located at Cherry
Lawn Park in Darien. The third camp provided is the Sports Spectacular Variety Camp which is
located at Cherry Lawn Park in Darien as well. Three sessions are offered; session one meets
from July 1st to July 5th, session two meets from August 5th to August 9th, and the third session
meets from August 19th to August 23rd.

SoundWaters provides three programs within the summer camp, each pertaining to a
specific age group. The Sea Stars include children in grades K-2 and participate in activities that
promote hands-on science learning such as exploring, examining live animals, and games. The
Bluefish, containing grades 3-5, collect animals, take canoe trips, swim lessons, and have a one
overnight in the SoundWaters Center. The third group is called Small Boat Sailing, which
includes grades 5-8 where they learn how to sail and race one another.

The Yerwood Camp is offered for students in grades K-6th for eight weeks and focuses on
building academic skills. The children participate in sports, recreation, computers, academic
activities, aquatics, and theater arts. During the 8-week summer program, students in the pilot
initiative each received 60 hours of group instruction, spent 30 hours on “fun” academic
activities, 14 hours reading with peers, and 9 hours engaged in online academic enrichment
programming. Diagnostic Math and Reading assessments of pilot program students demonstrated
an average 8% increase in performance. It costs $700 plus a $50 non-refundable fee to enter your
child in the program.

SoundWaters provides both during school and after school programs for children in
grades K-12. The elementary school programs offered are Arts to Life and Discovery Team. Arts
to Life is for grades 3-5 and is an eight week, three hour after school program. It combines
science with a number of different art forms – photography, painting, and poetry. The Discovery
Team is offered for students K-5 and learn about the ecology of the Long Island Sound in one
hour sessions, once each weeks, for a series of six to twelve weeks. Different activities are
presented each time to introduce students to the animals, habitats and watershed of the local area.
Live animals, games that illustrate scientific concepts, related crafts, and simple experiments are
among the types of activities included.

The Stamford Public Education Foundation supports literacy initiatives for elementary
school students through the programs they offer. PowerLunch is a national literacy and
mentoring program that meets once a week where students sit one-to-one with adults. LIFE
(Learning is for Everyone) Tutoring helps improve the performance of low income, minority
students who may be at the low end of the achievement gap. It provides students who reside in

Stamford Early Head Start is a child development program that is part of Childcare
Learning Centers. Early Head Start is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services and provides free comprehensive services to expectant families and children aged
birth to three whose parent(s) meet the federal income guidelines. Our Home Based Program
offers weekly visits in the home 90 minutes in length to promote healthy pregnancies and
child growth and development. Head Start employs activities that promote physical,
cognitive, and socio-emotional growth. Head Start of Stamford is open from 7:30AM to
5:30PM Monday through Friday. There is no fee, but a sliding scale is used for the extended
