Lalitha’s family is in Allikulam, a village near Walaja, Vellore District. Her father once in awhile goes for
job and drinks for the money what he earned. Her mother worked as a helper in construction job.
Lalitha was referred to Sarva Vidya for Two years Diploma in Nursing Assistant through an NGO called
Kaveri Jaya Bharath Matha Women’s Federation, walaja. Lalitha belong to the assisted category student
of Sarva Vidya, where her half of the Course fee was arranged as a loan from an another local NGO.
Now Lalitha is working in Shraddha – Home Care project. She is earning monthly Rs. 5000/= and giving
home Rs. 3000/=. Her mother is very much happy about it and she expressed her gratitude in a get
together and now her mother want to build their house in Allikulam.
Lalitha is very much proud about her education. While enrolling herself in Sarva Vidya she expressed
that her relatives are ill-treating their family, because of her father’s behavior and both of them are girl
children. At present there is positively lot of changes in her self confidence and self esteem.

Vani belong a village near Arrakkonam. Vani was referred to Sarva Vidya by Sri Ramakrishna Math,
Mylapore. Vani has two sisters one is doing her +2 and another one in 8th std. Vani’s father is a
alcoholic and has the habit of chewing pan. While studying in Sarva vidya her father was affected by
Oral Cancer.
Through Sarva Vidya we referred him to Adayar Cancer Institute. He took treatment for a while. Doctors
recommended him to under go for a surgery but he refused and ran away from the hospital. He then
becomes worst in his habits and making trouble to the family.
Again we referred him for counseling and at present taking treatment – Chemotherapy in Stanley
Hospital, Chennai.
After her course vani joined in a institution called Kalai selvi karunalaya, a home for orphan children.
She is in charge of the medical unit where children below 5 years, who are sick, are taken care. Under
the consultation of the Doctor from Child Trust she gives to medicines, injections to the children.
She earn monthly 4,000/= . Boarding, Lodging and clothing are taken care by the institution. She wants
her two sisters to be educated well i.e elder sister as a BSC Nurse and younger sister in teaching
profession.
Vani’s mother state that with vani’s income we are able to feed our family and we want you to assist
vani’s younger sister to enroll herself in BSC Nursing.

Chitra is from a village called Chenna Samuthiram, a village near Walaja, Vellore District. Chitra finished
her schooling at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Walaj. She has Thyroid problem.
After her schooling her father wants chitra to get married because Thyroid will then only cured and what
she is going to do with the education.
She was referred to Sarva Vidya through a Women’s Self Help Group in their village. Her brother is a
Truck driver and asked his mother enroll her self in Two Years Diploma.
Without informing her father she came to Chennai and finished her course. Chitra is assisted by an NGO
for her course fee.
Currently Chitra is working in Shraddha, Home Care Project and earning Rs. 5000/= per month and gives
home Rs. 3000/=. Her elder sister had finished her +2 and chitra has enrolled her elder sister in
computer class in Walaja.
Chitra conveyed that we don’t want to trouble my mother and through my earning I will look after my
sisters education.

Arogyamary is from Vizhupuram. Her father is working as a cooly in Chennai. She was referred by Sri
Ramakrishnamath, Mylapore. She took Practical Training in V.K. Hospital, Alwarthirunagar and at
present working in the same hospital and earning Rs. 3000/= month.
In a meeting her father expressed that if Mary have not enrolled in Sarva vidya she would be working in
a leather company for 13 hrs per day and will be earning about 2000/= per month and most of the girls
from our village are affected by Tuber culosis by working in that leather company.
We in our home are very happy and while she is giving injection to patients I am wondering weather this
is Mary. We are proud of her job. Mary expressed that by getting more training in midwifery I will
switch over to another hospital and will earn nearly Rs. 5000/ per month.

Selvi’s family is economically very poor since their father’s occupation is farmer there was no fixed
monthly income for their family.
They can get income after harvest season twice or thrice annually. She has only one sister and she got
married one younger brother. Due to their family condition her brother dropped out from the school.
As selvi is drawing Rs 5000 per month .She is financially supporting a monthly income of Rs 3000/-They
are running their family without much strain. Selvi and her family members expressed their happiness
during the graduation day.

Mahalakshmi belongs to kumbakonam District. She studied up to 10th std in Municipal School and did
her +2 through distant education by working in an Parcel company due to her family condition.
Her father passed away while she was doing her 8th std. She ranks first in class. She was sponsored by
Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore.
She took Practical training in M.K. Hosptal, Tondiyarpet. At present she is working in Nalam Hospital,
Vyasarpadi, Chennai. She is earning Rs. 3500/- per month and sending 2000/= to her family.
She wants to do her higher studies so monthly for 15 days she does home nursing referred by their
hospital like dressing, giving insulin injection in their home etc.
She wants to do some specialization in E.N.T. or Theatre Techniques. At present she is planning to
apply for B.S.C Psychology, Annamalai Univercity through correspondence.

Shobana is from Pattabiram, Chennai. She was referred to Sava Vidya by Indian Redcross, Tamil Nadu
Branch. While she was studying in Sarva Vidya she is a day scholar candidate and travels nearly 4hours
a day.
At present she is working in Meena Hospital at Pattabiram itself. She is earning Rs. 4500/= a month.
Her father and mother shared their view on Graduation Day that we were very much worried that how
we are going to survive with 3 girl children.
But now I hope that with in few years I will be supported by 3 daughter because already shobana is
giving me Rs. 4500/- every month and she meets her personal expenses by doing extra duties.
He also said that two years back I am not in a position to enroll my first daughter in B.Sc Nursing in a
College of Nursing because of my financial position but together (with my daughters support) now we
can join my other 2 daughters.
Not only that out living place is semi rural and if any body is sick then decide to admit in the Hospital
where my daughter is working stating that shobana will take care. I became popular because of my
daughter job.
Mr. Kumarasamy , shobana’s father further said that if my other 2 daughters did some professional
course like this my life time ambition will be taken care off.
