On Monday, March 9 th you will choose your topic for the research essay and report it to your teacher. All topics must be approved by your teacher prior to computer work.
You may choose your research topic from the following categories:
Historic Event
Career
College
Historic Person (this person must no longer be living)
If you have an idea for a research topic that does not fit under these categories, please discuss it with your teacher. You may NOT use research that you have done prior in EEE, English,
Science, or Social Studies.
This is a new research paper.
Your essay needs to be at least 5 paragraphs in length. You need to have an introductory paragraph introducing your topic and outlining what you will be covering in your essay. Make sure you have a hook to keep us reading.
You will have at least three body paragraphs explaining your topic.
You will also have a concluding paragraph which wraps up and pulls together your essay.
You must also have an additional page for works cited. The sources must be in alphabetical order and must be in proper format. Use easybib.com to help cite your sources.
You must use at least 4 - 6 sources for your paper. You MAY NOT use Wikipedia.
When we are in the computer lab we will not be printing any articles. Your job will be to take good notes on the various article so that you can write your rough draft. Lined paper and
Cornell Notes paper will be available.
Essay Submission Requirements
We are going for a professional finished product as a final copy.
Essays
*must be double spaced
*must have a centered title and student name
*must contain at least 5 paragraphs
*must contain 5-6 sentences per paragraph.
*that are hand written must be on loose leaf paper – no jagged edges
*may be typed (size 12/New Times Roman or Ariel) or written in black or blue ink
Your paper must be printed prior to class on the due date and be ready to turn in at the beginning of class.
If there is an issue with your home printer, essays may be attached to an e-mail addressed to your teacher but must be received on or before 6:30 am on the date the paper is due.
Your essay will be handed back and will be considered late if
*pencil is used
*essay is not double spaced
*essay is written in any ink color other than black or blue
*sources are not cited or are not cited properly

Late points will be assessed (25% reduction) for any paper not turned in on Friday at the beginning of class (barring illness or excused absence).
