GRADING GUIDELINES
2012-2013
CAMPUS:
Crockett Elementary
PRINCIPAL:
Aurelia Barrera
The purpose of grades is to communicate to parents/guardians the academic achievement of a student
toward the mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Report cards and progress reports
serve as written notice to a parent/guardian of a student’s current level of achievement in each class,
subject or course during a specified period of time. Grades are not indicators of disciplinary action or
non-academic performance.
Crockett Elementary uses the following grading practices:
 Multiple measures (more than one type of assessment to examine the same kind of knowledge
as well as more than one assessment to evaluate learning of the same body of knowledge)
 Performance criteria for which student responses, products, or performances are evaluated to
ensure consistency in scoring and clarity of student performance expectations.
 Continuous and timely feedback on assessments.
1.
Grades entered in the teacher’s grade book and report card grades will reflect progress toward
and achievement of knowledge and skills as outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
(TEKS). Teachers shall enter grades in eSchool Plus, the District’s electronic grade book.
2.
A minimum of eight (8) separate grades during a six-week reporting period must be recorded for
Reading and Math. A minimum of six (6) separate grades during a six-week reporting period must
be recorded for the other subjects. A minimum of one (1) Six Weeks Test for Math (Topics Test)
and Reading (Unit Test) for K-5th Grade; 4th Grade – Writing; 5th Grade Science.
3.
All assignments (daily work, quizzes, tests, End of 6 wks Topic/Unit assessments, etc.,) will be
weighted the same and graded on a 0-100 point system.
4.
Students should complete and turn in assignments when they are due. However, students will
have the opportunity to complete late work within a teacher specified period of time. Teachers will
determine the grade earned for the late work with a maximum deduction of 10 points off of the
grade for each day that the work/assignment is late.
5.
Students will have the opportunity for re-teaching and re-assessment for mastery of the TEKS.
When the student retakes an assessment, the student will receive a grade no higher than 70 on
any work that has been redone multiple times.
6.
Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties on
assignments/tests and disciplinary penalties in accordance to the Student Code of Conduct.
7.
The teacher of record will determine the final yearly grade by averaging together the final grades
for each reporting period.
8.
Grade changes are the responsibility of the teacher of record.
9.
Students may receive a grade of zero for any assignment or test not made up within the allotted
time. The allotted time to make up work or tests that have been missed due to absences consists
of one day for each day’s absence.
10. District benchmarks will not be averaged into the student’s grade as determined by the PDM
Team.
11. Teachers shall not impose a grade penalty for make-up work after an absence because of
suspension.
12. Students shall be permitted to take tests administered in any class missed because of an
absence.
13. The teacher shall request a parent/teacher conference when a student is not achieving progress
toward or achievement of the TEKS. EIA (Local)
14. A parent who feels that the grade received by the student has not been determined according to
the District/Campus Grading Guidelines shall discuss the concern with the teacher. If the concern
is not resolved, the student or parent may present the concern to the principal. The principal shall
investigate the facts to ensure that the grade is accurate and is determined according to
established Grading Guidelines. When grades are determined to be mathematically incorrect, the
principal shall direct the teacher to adjust the grade. EIA (Local)
