AATA Outstanding Post-Secondary Educator Award Purposes and Eligibility for the Award Program The purpose of this award is to recognize teachers at the post-secondary level who have made significant contributions to agricultural education. The AATA will present the AATA Outstanding PostSecondary Educator of the Year Award at the Annual AATA Conference. Qualifications: Award preference will be given to AATA members but membership is not required. Applicant must devote at least 50% of teaching time to postsecondary Agricultural Education Instruction. Previous year winner (Outstanding Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year) ineligible for award recognition. Nomination AATA Members, University of Arizona Staff, Arizona State University Staff, ADE Staff may submit the nominations form. Nominations must be received or postmarked by the nomination due date. The AATA Member Services Chair will notify nominees and invite them to complete the application process. Only nominated teachers will be eligible for this award. Selection The AATA Member Services Chair will chair the Awards selection committee to include Agriculture Teachers, University of Arizona Staff, and ADE. Applications will be selected utilizing the AATA award selection process based on the following factors: membership in professional organizations, program and professional improvement, completion of state forms and letters of recommendation from administrators. Award Application Instructions What to Submit: A complete application for the AATA Award Program includes the six components listed below. These components should apply to the individual applicant. 1. Application Cover Sheet- the first page of the application must be the completed application cover sheet that is available on the last page of this document or online at http://www.azffa.org/aata/downloads.php?dir=%2FAATA+Files+%28Public%29. No other cover pages should be included. (The cover sheet is not considered a part of the page limitations.) 2. Narrative- the narrative is limited to eight 8½” x 11” pages. The narrative must be typewritten in Word with a font smaller than 12 point, double-spaced, and on one side of the page only. Multiple text formats are acceptable including paragraphs, lists, and tables. The narrative must follow the outline specified as follows: a. Overview- brief description of your Agricultural Education Program and the community in which your Program exists. (10%) b. Teaching Philosophy- a brief reflective statement (not to exceed one page) of your personal teaching philosophy. (10%) c. Instruction- examples of your effective classroom and laboratory instruction including curricula you have developed. (20%) d. Experiential Learning- examples of your accomplishments in getting students involved in work-based learning such as Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) Programs, Cooperative Education, and Internships. (10%) e. Student Organizations- examples of your students’ participation and successes in student organization activities, such as FFA. (10%) f. Partnerships- examples of your relationships with partners such as volunteers, school and community leaders, industry leaders, and others who have the capacity to support your agricultural education program. (10%) g. Marketing- examples of how you market (or promote) your local program to groups such as prospective students, parents, school administrators, and community leaders. (10%) h. Professional Growth- examples of how you stay professionally prepared and up-todate in teaching techniques and technical content including information regarding your participation in professional organizations. (15%) 3. Letters of Reference- three letters of reference should be included. Sources of the letters should be as follows: one letter from an administrator, one letter from an agricultural educator, and one letter from a member of the community. (The letters of reference are not considered in the page limitations.) (5%) 4. Supporting Materials- the supporting materials are limited to eight 8 1/2” x 11” pages using one side of the page only (separate from narrative). Supporting materials (such as photographs with captions, news articles, and other items) must be formatted to 8½”x11” or affixed to 8½”x11” pages. Evaluation of supporting materials will be included with the evaluation of the components of the narrative (2a.-2h. above) 5. CD or USB Flash Drive- the CD or USB Flash Drive will include the following items: a. Completed Application Cover Sheet saved as “Cover Sheet-FirstName.LastName” b. Completed Narrative saved in Word of PDF form as “Narrative-FirstName.LastName” c. Letters of Reference saved in Word or PDF form as “Reference-FirstName.LastName” d. Supporting Materials saved in Word or PDF form as “Supporting MaterialsFirstName.LastName” Submission 1. What to Submit: The original printed application and the CD or USB Flash Drive with all components listed in (5) a.-d. The printed applications must be bound only in the upper left corner; printed applications must not be placed in folders, binders, or page protector sleeves. 2. When and Where to Submit: The application packet including the printed application and CD or USB flash drive should be hand delivered to the Member Services Chair by June 4th at 7pm (beginning of SLC). Entries that do not include the CD or USB flash drive with the required components will not be accepted.
