Every Child Counts in Worcestershire Update April 2015 Every Child Counts is run on a not-for-profit basis by Edge Hill University and was set up with support from the DfE. Since 2008, 100,000 children who have difficulties with mathematics, have been supported by ECC in over 5,000 schools. It is well-established in Worcestershire, with some schools reaching the end of their 5th year. ECC aims to help schools to raise achievement of low-attaining pupils and raise standards in mathematics for all children. It provides specialist training, resources and support for teachers and teaching assistants, enabling schools to: narrow the attainment gap in mathematics – pupils involved make significantly accelerated progress and develop a more positive attitude to learning mathematics make effective use of Pupil Premium Funding and report evidence of impact develop the subject knowledge and pedagogical expertise of teachers and teaching assistants Worcestershire has continued its successful partnership with Edge Hill University this year, and will be offering professional development for all mathematics interventions for children in Key Stages 1-3 in 201516: Numbers Count, 1stClass@Number and Success@Arithmetic, together with 2 new programmes for Key Stage 2 Talk 4 Number and Success@Arithmetic: Number Sense. All ECC interventions support the new National Curriculum. ECC Programme Target group Numbers Count Years 1-3 Numbers Count 2 Years 4-8 (for new Numbers Count teachers) Numbers Count – continuing programme (for accredited teachers) Children in Years 1-8 who have the greatest difficulties with maths. The specially trained teacher supports other staff in school. 1st Class@Number (for Teaching Assistants) 1st Class@Number 2 (for Teaching Assistants) Talk 4 Number NEW (for Teaching Assistants) Success@Arithmetic: Calculation (for teachers and Teaching Assistants) Success@Arithmetic: Number Sense NEW for spring 2016 (for teachers and Teaching Assistants) Children previously assessed at about Level 1C, who need further support with the new Year 1 curriculum. Children previously assessed at about Level 2C, who need further support with the new Year 2 curriculum. Children, mainly in Years 3 & 4, who need support and encouragement to use and understand mathematical language or talk fluently about their mathematics. Children in upper KS2 & in KS3, previously assessed at about Level 3C/3B, who need support to develop fluency with formal written methods.
