Every Child Counts in Worcestershire
Update April 2015
Every Child Counts is run on a not-for-profit basis by Edge Hill University and was set up with support from
the DfE. Since 2008, 100,000 children who have difficulties with mathematics, have been supported by ECC
in over 5,000 schools. It is well-established in Worcestershire, with some schools reaching the end of their
5th year.
ECC aims to help schools to raise achievement of low-attaining pupils and raise standards in mathematics
for all children. It provides specialist training, resources and support for teachers and teaching assistants,
enabling schools to:
 narrow the attainment gap in mathematics – pupils involved make significantly accelerated
progress and develop a more positive attitude to learning mathematics
 make effective use of Pupil Premium Funding and report evidence of impact
 develop the subject knowledge and pedagogical expertise of teachers and teaching assistants
Worcestershire has continued its successful partnership with Edge Hill University this year, and will be
offering professional development for all mathematics interventions for children in Key Stages 1-3 in 201516: Numbers Count, 1stClass@Number and Success@Arithmetic, together with 2 new programmes for
Key Stage 2 Talk 4 Number and Success@Arithmetic: Number Sense.
All ECC interventions support the new National Curriculum.
