I am Michael Pearcy and will be teaching 6th and 7th grade social studies and 6th grade math this school year. I am from Erlanger, Kentucky. I graduated from Lloyd Memorial High School in 2009, and then Northern Kentucky University in 2014 with a Bachelor degree in Middle Grade Math and Social Studies Education. This is my second year teaching at Williamstown Jr. Sr. High. At home I have an amazing beagle named Matilda, I also have my wonderful wife, Brandy, of four years; in December we will celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary. Brandy and will be graduating this year from Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. As you can see, education is a big part of my life and I will do what I can to help my students succeed in my classroom and life. Units to be covered this year: This year we will be using the TCI History Alive! The Ancient World textbook. With this book we will have 7 units: 1.) Early Humans and the Rise of Civilization 2.) Ancient Egypt and the Middle East 3.) Ancient India 4.) Ancient China 5.) Ancient Greece 6.) Ancient Rome 7.) The Middle ages 8.) World Religions (this is a recent change. It is to allow us to go more in-depth with the connections of the regions to each other and the building of the world's civilizations.) Class Supplies: Students will be responsible for supplying and maintaining the following items: 1 binder: a least 1 inch filler paper pencils 1 composition note book to be kept in the classroom for journaling Classroom wish list: If you are able to provide any of the following items throughout the school year it would be greatly appreciated: tissues, paper towels, wipes, pencils, and craft materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.). Grading: The grades will be weighted and placed in the following categories: Class activities and homework: 10% Quizzes and projects: 10% Tests: 80% Communication: I will be utilizing several different forms of communication this year to keep parents informed. Remind: This is a texting service where I will be sending out messages to all who sign up about upcoming tests, activities, homework and other assignments. I will have the same account for all my 7th grade classes. To sign up for my remind text: @pearcy7 to: 81010. Class Dojo: This is a classroom management tool where students will earn positive and negative points. This WILL NOT count towards the student's class grade at all. You will be able to sign up for a Class Dojo account where you will be able to keep track of these points and even email me through the site with any question, comments, or concerns. Each student will receive an individualized parent involvement sheet with a code to link up to the student’s personal Class Dojo. Additional events, recourses, and misalliance information will also be kept on my class website. You can find this on the school website.
