JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Instructional Specialist, ECC-Sullivan DEPARTMENT: Career & Outreach Education LOCATION: Sullivan - (SAC) REPORTS TO: Director, ECC-Rolla/ECC-Sullivan FLSA: Non-Exempt LEVEL: 105 DATE: 07/01/2011 POSITION SUMMARY: Provide one-on-one instruction and perform testing services to students; provide Adult Education & Literacy/General Educational Development instruction to students. ESSENTIAL TASKS: Provide direct instruction to Adult Education & Literacy students. Explain Adult Education & Literacy program to future and prospective students Complete reports; prepare and maintain documentation of Adult Education & Literacy materials for students. Maintain documentation of tests and testing materials Tutor students; provide direct instruction, review tests and conduct orientation. Assist students in using instructional computer assisted programs, as necessary. Administer and monitor tests in Testing Center. Assist new students with accessing information about financial aid, enrollment, and admissions. Assist instructors with copies, AV equipment, and computer lab as necessary. Assist students with basic computer skills. Ensure that all activities are conducted within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Coordinate with Learning Center staff at the main campus regarding several items: new and prospective tutors, assessment testing, dual- credit assessment testing, and coordinate between local high schools and the Learning Center. Assist front desk as needed. Make referrals as needed (to who??). Coordinate with county probation and parole due to the high number of probation and parole AEL students. ???? Coordinate with other state agencies (welfare programs and vocational rehabilitation) due to high number of AEL students receiving services or in need of services. ???? Provide documentation to state court systems regarding students (when needed and confidentiality issues have been addressed. Perform other duties as may be assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Knowledge of department and college policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to identify and express problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions from alternative methods and procedures. Knowledge of Mathematics in order to assist students. Knowledge of Scientific Calculators. Basic knowledge of scientific procedures and Government/Historical Studies to instruct AEL students. Knowledge of AEL and Learning Center procedures. Ability to handle confidential matters. Some knowledge of learning disabilities with regards to making referrals, providing necessary accommodations and complying with ADA regulations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good organizational and time management skills Ability to provide encouraging and supportive educational atmosphere for students. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to organize and express ideas, directions, and data in a logical sequence to develop reports, describe a process, or explain procedures such as how to perform a task to someone else. Ability to present materials effectively to individual students or groups. Ability to verbalize understanding of a problem or situation, ask relevant questions for clarification, and explain it to others. Ability to engage, motivate, and retain students. Ability to work with extremely diverse group of people. LEADERSHIP and COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Follow complex technical instructions, solve technical problems, or disseminate information regarding policies and procedures; may compose unique reports or analysis; and/or provide extensive customer service to internal or external customers. Communicate information to guide or assist people; may give instructions or assignments to helpers or assistants. DECISION-MAKING and ANALYTICAL SKILLS: Requires some decisions that affect a few co-workers. Perform specialized technical work involving data collection, evaluation, analysis, and troubleshooting, or reports on operations and activities of a department, or performs general coordination of individual or departmental activities. EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE: Use office machines such as telephones, fax machines, copiers or calculators. Use computers for data entry and Microsoft XP, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), or custom applications. Use of scientific calculators. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
