It is located on the river Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest city in Germany, behind Berlin and Hamburg. About 1.35 million people live within the city limits. Munich hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics. Munich offers lots of attractions for its visitors such as Hofbräuhaus which is a beloved beer hall that has existed since 1644 and lives up to its reputation: beer, food, tourists, oom-pah music, drunken revelry and Lederhosen. Another one of Munich attraction’s is its English Gardens. The English Garden, Munich´s famous 900-acre park, has shaded paths, brooks, ponds and swans and is best known for its four beer gardens (Chinesischer Turm, Seehaus, Hirschau, Aumeister). The English Garden stretches from the center of the city (near Odeonsplatz) to the northern city border. English Gardens Munich also includes Marienplatz which is the heart of the city of Munich. In the Middle Ages, the square used to be a market place as well as the place where tournaments and festivities took place. Prague Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava River, the city is home to about 1.3 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of over 2.3 million. One attraction of Prague is the Prague Castle. The castle in Prague is where the Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept here. Prague Castle is the biggest castle in the world (according to Guinness Book of Records the biggest ancient castle) at about 570 metres in length and an average of about 130 metres wide. Prague Castle Another Attraction of Prague is the Charles Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and the oldest bridge in Prague. It is almost 10m wide, 516m long and rests on 16 arches. Towers guard both ends of the bridge – the Old Town Bridge Tower and two Malá Strana Bridge Tower. The bridge is embellished with 30 Baroque statues and sculptural groups from the early 18th century depicting saints, and historical and biblical figures. Charles Bridge is a popular place among street performers and artists - painters, musicians, dancers, mime artists who have established their own association called the Association of Charles Bridge Artists. The Old Town Astronomical Clock dating from the 15th century is one of the most treasured and best-known of Prague’s historical sites. It can be found on the side of the Gothic tower of the Old Town Hall. The Astronomical Clock is a one of the best examples of Czech Gothic technology and a prized work of art. On the hour every hour between 9.00 and 21.00 small statues of the12 apostles appear in small windows at the top of the clock. On either side of the clock a Skeleton, a Turk, a Miser and a figure representing Vanity come to life. When all the apostles have presented themselves to the crowds below, a cockerel crows and the clock chimes the hour.
