Job Description
Job Mission
Ensure that strategies for the WWF-’s Coral Triangle Programme (CTP) are based on the needs from CT
countries, on latest science and knowledge. Optimize regional capacity and global team work and
develop funding support and strategic partnerships for the CTP implementation. Support the Coral
Triangle Regional Team to ensure they are well equipped, skilled and funded to implement the CTP and
achieve its targets.
Specifically, work closely with policy and conservation experts in the Coral Triangle region and other
WWF offices worldwide engaged in Coral Triangle (CT) related activities to leverage change in policy
agendas and build a regional and international profile for WWF’s CTP. The position supports WWF’s
work on policy and in-country government processes related to implementing the CTP and supporting
implementation of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF)
Regional and National Plans of Action.
Ensure smooth and effective transition of the CT Global Initiative (CTGI) to the Global Priority Place
Programme in FY15.

Key activities that will achieve the Job Mission
The CT Leader is responsible for five aspects which are:
1. Technical input for development of CTP strategies.
2. Development of funding proposals and partnerships.
3. Coordinating/supervision of implementation of CTP strategies.
4. Reporting internal and external.
5. Convening the CT Regional Team, the SET, the CT Management Team, Strategy Working Groups
& Advisory Group
Additionally:
The CT leader provides input to the CT Regional Team on staffing/consultant capacity, hiring, firing, and
a coaching system based on identified program capacity needs.
The CT leader assists the CT Regional Team members with the development of annual work plans,
budgets and reports in consultation with the CT Management Team & relevant partners.
The CT leader assists CTP Regional Team and CT Management to strengthen their network with
donors and partners.
Every 6 months a meeting is organized with the CT Regional Team to evaluate progress and determine
program needs.
Every year a face to face meeting is organized with the WWF CT Management Team to agree on work
plans and budgets, review progress, identify cross-initiative linkages and determine regional needs.
Every two-three months a phone link up is organized with the CT Management Team where progress is
evaluated, where new knowledge is shared on strategies, approaches and partnerships and where a
series of action points are determined for enhanced achievement and integration of program targets.
At least once every month, interaction takes place with all CTP regional team members on progress,
challenges and actions required to make progress towards targets.
The CT leader coordinates with the CT regional team members on participation in meetings, donor
visits, partner visits, and management discussions and uses online telecommunications as much as
possible to minimize travel. When required ad-hoc trips are also made to provide technical input where
needed.

1. Initiate cooperation with other conservation partners.
2. Develop proposals and negotiate funding opportunities for WWF CT NO/PO and CTP
3. Assess technical and substantial capabilities for new consultants/staff and existing staff for
hiring/firing processes and capacity building processes.
4. Maintain updated knowledge and understanding on developments in marine conservation strategies
and approaches and the CT region and feed into strategic planning processes.
5. Prepare draft reports for all donors and check all communications products.

Working conditions
Approximately 70% working in office with computer, remaining 30% time traveling and meetings.

Job Requirement
Job Pre-requisite
A Bachelor’s Degree or higher with at least 10 years of experience in marine conservation, fisheries
management and / or conservation programme management.
Experience working in a senior role in an NGO.
Competency Requirement
Following the project cycle management levels this job requires level 5. This includes:
Level 5: Capable to provide guide/advice for program and organizational consolidation (in line with the
global quality/standards)

Capable to lead program implementation at the regional level and device / implement
appropriate strategies for program continuation / exit

Capable to design / train a system for, and apply periodical program monitoring and evaluation
(on the substance, funding, resource allocations, conservation target achievements), and adapt
these for improvement of the regional program

Capable to provide significant input (on the substance, threat pattern, funding opportunities,
partnership mapping) for the 3 Yearly Strategic Plan

Capable to prepare the appropriate reports / position papers / proposals for internal (WWF) and

Threshold Competencies:

Competence Propensity Gauge
Educational Background:
A degree from a fisheries, marine resources, or environment management faculty from a good university.
Professional Experience:
- A solid track record of success in developing strategic programs based on best available
knowledge and science.
- Experienced successfully a technical position in an environmental NGO, or relevant agency.
Has training certificate related to:
Organisational management, business practices, negotiation skills, contract management, diving.
