Registration of activities in the doctoral programme
Use this form for the final registration of your activities within the framework of the doctoral programme.
The form has to be submitted via the KU Loket application ‘PhD progress’ before an exam commission for
your doctoral defense can be appointed.

The doctoral programme includes 6 required components (truncus communis) and a supplementary
section. When you submit this form, you must have completed all the required components.
A. Required components (truncus communis)
1. Scientific publication (min. 1)
To fulfill the requirements of the doctoral programme you must have written at least one scientific
publication at an international level. By a publication at international level is meant: a peer-reviewed
contribution (journal article, contribution to a book, conference proceedings, patent, design) about his/her
own research and written in the language of the discipline. The contribution is aimed at an international
audience. In order to be able to successfully complete the doctoral programme, the contribution must be
published or be accepted for publication. A conference proceeding only qualifies for this requirement if it is
a contribution to a book. If the text has not yet been published, but has been accepted for publication,
please add a confirmation of the editor of the journal or book.
2. Giving seminars (min. 2)
You must give at least two seminars, organized within the research centre of which you are a member,
concerning your own doctoral research, or concerning a more general theme. A seminar concerning your
own doctoral research can coincide with an oral presentation of your doctoral research.

3. Active participation in all of a doctoral seminar (min. 1)
Within the doctoral programme you are required to actively participate in at least one elaborate or
specialized research seminar of one of the 5 majors of the MPhil programme (including paper or exam). No
single sessions of MPhil seminars qualify for this requirement. Students with an MPhil diploma are
exempted from this requirement.

4. Giving a lecture at an international conference (min. 1)
To fulfil the requirements of the doctoral programme, you must give at least one lecture or oral presentation
at an international, scientific conference.

B. Supplementary section
The supplementary section comprises additional activities in function of your doctoral research and/or as
preparation for functioning professionally within or outside of the university. These activities fall under four
domains. For the registration of supplementary activities to be complete, the supervisor should sign at the
end of the form.

You can follow doctoral seminars from the list of those at the Institute of Philosophy or other faculties of the
KU Leuven or at another university.
