St. Luke’s Cathedral Wedding Policy and Planner 143 State Street Portland, Maine 04101 207-772-5434 office@stlukesportland.org www.stlukesportland.org St. Luke’s Wedding Policy We are delighted that you are considering St. Luke’s Cathedral for your upcoming wedding. Our space is both beautiful and historic, a wonderful setting for your ceremony. Weddings at St. Luke’s typically follow an Episcopal order of service, and are usually done by, or in conjunction with, a priest at St. Luke's. Couples are expected to participate in premarital preparation with the priest, and to complete it satisfactorily. Additional fees may be charged for non-pledging members. Please see the wedding fees below. If either party has been divorced, additional counseling and the approval of the Bishop of Maine may be required. If you have further questions, please call the Dean at St. Luke's at 772-5434. 1 St. Luke’s Wedding Planner To help St. Luke's anticipate your wedding plans as agreed upon, please help us with the following information. About Flowers… The Head of the Flower Guild is available to meet with the couple and their florist to discuss the many choices pertaining to flower placement in St. Luke's. Her name is Muffie Fernald and may be reached at 207-400-0139. We request that the some of the wedding flowers be left at St. Luke's to be used on the following Sunday. Your offering will be noted in the bulletin for that Sunday. Some considerations to ensure your wedding is characterized by beauty and grace... 1. If you plan to videotape your wedding service, we will be happy to show you some excellent set-up locations for that purpose. We ask the cameraperson not to roam during the ceremony. 2. Your photographer is also welcome at the service, but should avoid any distractions. Please ask that photographs only be taken during the processional and recessional. 3. If you wish to reserve the church for photography after the service, let your photographer know that these photos must be completed in the half hour provided. 4. Rice, confetti, and plastic sprinkles are all environmental hazards, and very difficult and costly to clean up. Flower petals stain the new tile floor and are not an acceptable substitute whether to be strewn by the flower girl or tossed by the guests. Please ask your guests to refrain from throwing these items. (Thrown outside, grass seed and birdseed are wonderful substitutes.) 5. We are proud to say that our church is a smoke-free environment. 6. Clergy do not usually attend rehearsal dinners or wedding receptions. 7. For planning purposes, rehearsals and wedding services each take about one hour. The cathedral will be open one hour before the service for delivery of flowers. If no reception is held on site, the cathedral will be closed or open for other events a half hour after the ceremony is concluded. 3 Contribution to the Work of St. Luke's It may seem awkward to see such an organized fee schedule for the use of sacred space, but with all the details we know to be part of your marriage plans, we believe the clarity of this detail to be helpful.
