High School Student Application
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded as a community service organization on January 16, 1920 on the campus
of Howard University in Washington D.C. The Sorority was established by five African-American women under the principles
of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., is an international organization that
spans the globe with over 800 chapters in The United States, Africa, Germany, The Virgin Islands, Japan and Korea among
others.
The Pi Alpha Zeta Chapter was chartered on January 4, 1995 in Portland Oregon. Pi Alpha Zeta is the only Zeta Phi Beta
graduate chapter in the state of Oregon. It is composed of several African American women who have graduated from
various colleges and universities. Individually and as a group, chapter members volunteer their time to serve the Portland
Metro Area in many ways. This includes volunteer hours, monetary donations and many community outreach projects.
Keeping with the precepts of the sorority, the Pi Alpha Zeta Chapter awards an annual scholarship.
AWARD
One scholarship totaling $500 to be awarded
ELIGIBILITY
A female high school senior, in the Portland Metro Area planning to enter a 4 year college or university in the
fall following graduation with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or a GED score of 525.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Please provide a typed complete application in a word document.
2. Submit official high school transcript and/or proof of GED score.
3. Submit two written recommendations (preferably from a teacher, minister, employer, or community
leader).
4. Submit a typed 500 word essay that addresses your plans for the future and why you should receive
our scholarship.
5. Enclose a 3x5 photo of yourself
DEADLINE
Application and all supporting documents must be postmarked by Friday January 29th, 2016. Return completed

TIMELINE
Scholarship recipient and applicants will be notified of result by Monday February 15th, 2016. Recipient will be
awarded the scholarship at the 5th Annual Pi Alpha Zeta Chapter Appreciation Gala Dinner that will be held on
Saturday April 2nd, 2016. Proof of enrollment in a college or university must be submitted before monies will be
disbursed. Proof of enrollment must be from campus Registrars office.
