FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Are trailers still going to be used at the elementary when combined?
o If the levy passes we will eliminate the trailers.
o If the levy does not pass we will use the trailers only if we absolutely have no other
choice.
2. If all classrooms are moving into Mallory next year why wasn’t that done this year?
o All K-4 classrooms are in the main Mallory building except two 4th grade classrooms.
o We had room for one of the 4th grade classrooms inside the main building, but we did
not feel that it was wise to have the other one classroom in the trailers. Having one
classroom in the trailers apart from the main building would put the classroom teacher
in an awkward position by being alone with students in that trailer. We were thinking of
the safety of the students as well as the teacher. Inside the building, students are never
alone with a teacher in a room without a window in the door. If a room has a door with
no window, then the door must remain open when a student is alone in the room with a
teacher. All teachers pass a background check, but for the safety of the student and the
protection of the teacher as well we do not believe one classroom should be alone in
the trailers.
3. How large will the classrooms be by transferring Long Lane Elementary students into Mallory
Elementary?
o Class sizes would be approximately 20-24 students.
4. How many kids are coming from Long Lane and where will they fit?
o Currently Long Lane has 75 students. Second grade has 12 students and since Mallory
has 6 classes of 2nd grade, we would put 2 students in each class. This would put the
average class size in second grade at 22 students. Right now Mallory alone has an
average class size of 20 in the second grade.

The biggest class at Long Lane is the kindergarten class with 19 students. We currently
have 6 classes of kindergarten students at Mallory with an average class size of 18
students. Placing those 19 students into Mallory would raise the average kindergarten
class size to 21 students.
o We currently have the following K-4 classrooms in the main building: 6 kindergartens, 7
first grades, 6 second grades, 5 third grades and 4 fourth grades. We have the 1 empty
classroom mentioned above in question 2 that is used by title I. We also have 2 fourth
grade classrooms in the trailers. So we currently have 31 K-4 classrooms on campus with
the one empty room included. Twenty-nine of those classrooms are in the main
building. When we combine the elementary buildings we will still need 31 classrooms
which is the same number of rooms we are currently using here at Mallory.
How many students are truly enrolled in Long Lane Elementary? We hear conflicting numbers.
o There are currently 75 students enrolled at Long Lane Elementary.
How does is save money sending Long Lane students to Mallory?
o It eliminates the duplication of services. Instead of paying for the operation of two
buildings we are now paying for the operation of one. This is a fact that no one can
deny.
Will Long Lane teachers and staff lose their jobs due to the transfer of students to Mallory?
o Teachers will be placed at Mallory and at the Buffalo Prairie Middle School. There are
spots open due to retiring teachers and resignations. Teachers will be placed where they
can most benefit our students.
o The same can be said about the cooks, custodian, and secretary. We may be able to
place all due to retiring staff. Some may need to be moved to a different position, but
will have a job.
Why are you asking for the construction of classrooms at Mallory?
o We want to eliminate the trailers. We want all of our students in the main building.
Why are you transferring Long Lane students into Mallory and asking for the construction of
classrooms at Mallory?
o The transferring of Long Lane students is to cut the duplication of services. Mallory has
31 classrooms K-4 and with Long Lane students transferring into Mallory we will still
have 31 classrooms.
o If the levy does not pass we will still have 31 classrooms.
o If the levy passes, we will still have 31 classrooms, but none of them will be in the
trailers.
What are the technology upgrades that you are asking for with this levy and why?
o We need our technology infrastructure upgraded. The hubs, switches, and all stuff
behind the walls and in the ceilings that allows us to use smart boards, internet, wifi,
ipads, Chromebooks, Nooks, and all the other devices that is part of 21st Century
learning has to be upgraded. We are trying to operate 2015 technology devices on a
2009 technology highway, if that makes sense.
o Missouri MAP testing is online this year. All students’ grades 3-8 take online MAP tests.
We prepare them for these tests by getting students in the habit of taking other online
tests throughout the school year.
