Definitions of Terms

Community Partners

Relationships that faculty maintain with local, regional or national agencies and industry that provide collaborative experiential learning and research opportunities for students and faculty.

Entrepreneurship

Provide students and faculty with opportunities to learn how to commit to an idea to research and launch new products or services that solve real-world problems. Entrepreneurial spirit is characterized by innovation and risk-taking, and is essential to finding novel solutions and starting new ventures.

There is a need for entrepreneurs in health care to act as change agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss, improving systems, inventing new approaches, and creating solutions in the health care market place.

Sustainability

The 1987 Report of the Brundtland Commission, "Our Common Future," defined sustainability as: meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Three dimensions -- economic, environmental, and social -- are required to enjoy a high quality of life. Society is unstable if one of them is weak.

Inclusive Culture

An inclusive culture involves the full and successful integration of diverse people into a workplace or industry.

While an inclusive culture certainly encompasses a commitment to workplace diversity, it is not limited simply to basic representation; it indicates a climate in which respect, equity, and positive recognition of differences are all cultivated, and the social and institutional response to diversity poses no barrier to a positive employment experience.

Entrepreneurial Stewardship

Being creative and innovative in supporting faculty, staff and students. Incorporating the underlying themes of sustainability and entrepreneurship in our work.
