POSITION:

Adjunct Instructor, Dental Hygiene

Job Duties:

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary responsibility is the coordinating and teaching of Dental Hygiene students in didactic and clinical courses including supervising students in the clinical and rotation settings. Teaching requires utilizing techniques and knowledge that facilitates adult learning styles and demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques.

Collaborates with the additional program faculty regarding admissions policies, curriculum issues, clinical policies, teaching-learning techniques, student advising, remediation, and accreditation policies and procedures. Knowledge of current procedures in the Dental Hygiene field and maintains current knowledge in subject area, specifically clinical dental hygiene, dental technology, and dental radiology.

Participates in course and curriculum development, program review, professional development activities and serves on college committees as assigned to maintain and improve the instructional program. Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures, including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping requirements. Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills and knowledge of current procedures in the Dental

Hygiene field. Follows approved curriculum standards and course syllabi. Monitors student use of supplies, materials, and equipment. Manages and organizes dental hygiene clinic program as relates to student delivery of clinical care and supply maintenance, etc. Clinical Courses in the Dental Hygiene curriculum are scheduled for a minimum of a 4 hour time period with the instructor supervising students in a ratio of 5:1 students to instructor ratio. Applicable knowledge of dental hygiene theory, principals and clinical application. Knowledgeable in effective instructional practices to Support students with integration of their didactic learning with comprehensive patient care. The successful candidate must have a positive attitude, excellent oral and written communication skills; well- developed interpersonal and organizational skills. Computer experience with word processing, analog and digital radiography, intraoral photography, and knowledge and experience with computer clinical management Systems. Ability to work with Culturally and economically diverse backgrounds in a team spirited environment. Demonstrate critical thinking, knowledge, judgment, awareness, understanding, memory, and the ability to process information in a clear and effective manner. Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student. Maintains classrooms and laboratories in accordance with approved classroom and lab management plans.

Attends meetings as required. Observes and enforces the institution’s policies and regulations. Serves on committees and assumes other professional and community assignments as required or assigned. Assists with student recruitment and job placement Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical

College System of Georgia Policy Manual and accreditation standards. Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy

Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.

A minimum of a Associate

’s degree in dental hygiene or related program with an additional degree in dental hygiene. Degree/s must be from an accredited private or public postsecondary college or completion of an equivalent military, medical/hospital based, or company-sponsored training program. Three (3) years paid work experience in dental hygiene within the past seven years in a clinical environment.

Work experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels that the instructor will be expected to teach. Must demonstrate: excellent written verbal communication skills. Experienced with Microsoft office pkg. Experience with Banner and Learning Management systems a plus. Clinical skills: Clinical instrumentation techniques with both the dominant and non-dominant hand at the same time.

Physical mobility and stamina to demonstrate and supervise students during a 4 hour time period. Demonstrate gross and fine-motor skills and dexterity with both hands to perform in a safe and effective manner including tactile sensitivity. OVER

Demonstrative knowledge and background of dental hygiene clinical techniques.

Ability or Eligible for Licensure in the state of Georgia for Dental Hygiene license.

Experience implementing OSHA clinical standards, Dental Hygiene National Board

Competency, CPR certified.

5 years of experience in dental hygiene and/or higher education
