High Risk Activities Fact Sheet
High risk activities are those that demand greater physical ability, emotional stamina, and skill. These activities may require
specialized training, equipment, and supervision. Please see the Safety Activity Checkpoints and Girl Scouts of Eastern
Pennsylvania High Risk Activity List (below) for requirements when participating in a high risk activity. When participating in
any high risk activity, all registered Girl Scouts must have a signed High Risk Activity Permission Form and a current Health
History Form.

Required Documentation
High Risk Activity Permission Form for each girl must be completed and carried with the leader. If a trip includes more
than one High Risk Activity, all can be included on one permission form (per trip).
Certificate of Insurance (COI)
What is a COI? A Certificate Of Insurance is a document that certifies the existence of insurance coverage for an individual or a
business. A COI verifies that a business, organization, individual, or location meets the Girl Scouts’ insurances standards.
What is a COI needed for? A COI is needed for any activity considered High Risk according to Girl Scouts of USA and Girl Scouts of
Eastern Pennsylvania. Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints provides a list of activities with girl and leader requirements in order to
ensure a safe and fun experience.
A valid COI includes:
 Commercial general liability insurance in an amount no less than $1,000,000 or
 Automobile liability insurance in an amount no less than $5,000,000
 Insurance carrier rated "A" or better by an insurance rating firm
 Scheduled event falls within policy period shown
How do I get a COI from a business to give to GSEP? Check to see if they are on the approved trip venue list. If not, contact the business
or organization and request a COI. It must include the following information in the certificate holder box: Girl Scouts of Eastern
Pennsylvania, P.O. Box 27540, Philadelphia, PA 19118, and meet the standards of a valid COI outlined above. All forms should be
faxed to 215-745-4947 or emailed to travel@gsep.org.
How do I get a COI from GSEP to give to a business? Complete the Request for Certificate of Insurance Form and submit to
coi@gsep.org. It may take up to 10 business days to process.

*High Risk Council Approval Activities marked with an asterisk* require Council approval. If an activity is not listed, please
email Council at travel@gsep.org with detailed information about the activity. Council must approve the activity.
The following activities are never allowed for any girl:
 Shooting a projectile (such as paintball) or hunting
 Potentially uncontrolled free-falling (bungee jumping, hang gliding, parachuting, parasailing ,and trampolining)
 Non-commercial aircrafts (such as helicopters, private airplanes, and non-tethered hot air balloons)
 Creating extreme variations of approved activities (such as high-altitude climbing and aerial tricks on bicycles, skis, snowboards,
skateboards, water-skis, and wakeboards)
 Riding all-terrain vehicles and motor biking (no Go-Karts) and taking watercraft trips in Class V or higher
