Phillip Fulmer, a founding partner at BPV Capital Management, serves as part of the Business
Development Team. With his ability to build positive relationships, superb leadership skills, public
speaking abilities and “do the right thing” mentality, Fulmer is a great and unique member of the BPV
team.
Prior to joining BPV, Coach Fulmer’s long-time coaching career was mostly associated with the
University of Tennessee where he served as the Head Football Coach from 1992-2008, earning a record
of 152-52. His .745 winning percentage ranks in the top five in modern college football history. During
his tenure, he coached and mentored 18 All-Americans and 92 NFL draft picks. A conference champion
player himself in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Coach Fulmer’s football team was consistently
tough, winning the school’s first BCS national championship in 1998. Fulmer won two SEC titles as a
head coach and led his squad to win or share the SEC East title seven times.
Fulmer built his program by motivating his teams to victories when the pressure was highest. His
motivation was rooted in his role as a principled mentor who pushed his young men to grow socially,
spiritually, academically, personally, and athletically. Coach Fulmer had a reputation as an ace recruiter,
leading many analysts to praise him as one of the game’s top head coach recruiters. His holistic
approach earned Fulmer unprecedented recognition from his peers—the second coach in history to
earn the Eddie Robinson Coach of Distinction Trophy, the presidency of the American Football Coaches
Association, and national, regional and conference coach of the year honors.
Coach Fulmer most recently was inducted into the 2012 National Football Foundation and College
Football Hall of Fame. In order to be considered for the Hall of Fame, Coaches must have served at least
10 seasons and 100 games while posting a winning percentage of at least .600 and Coaches under the
age of 70 must have been out of coaching for three years. Coach Fulmer is one of the youngest coaches
to be inducted into the Hall of Fame which signifies the respect he received from his peers as being
selected in to the Hall on the first ballot.
Coach Fulmer applies his work ethic, as well as his relationship building and problem solving skills, to his
work with BPV. He believes in the importance of honoring his word and he enjoys BPV’s commitment to
following through and doing the right thing for clients.
Coach Fulmer has spent game day Saturdays in New York as part of the studio crew for CBS College
Sports as well as guest appearances on ESPN, sharing a career’s worth of insight ad experience with
college football fans. He continues to be a popular speaker at corporate events on topics that include
leadership styles, organizational skills, and communication methods. Coach Fulmer also made an
appearance on an Academy Award nominated movie for Best Picture, The Blind Side.
Coach Fulmer played at the University of Tennessee from 1969-71. He was co-captain on the 1971 team
and graduated with a BS in History. He currently resides in Maryville, TN. He and his wife, Vicky, have
four children: Phillip Jr., Courtney, Brittany and Allison and six grandchildren. Coach Fulmer’s Back Porch
Vista is the place in life that he feels secure that his family is in a good place regarding health, personal
and professional happiness, as well as financial security.
