Betsey O’Brien – is the Director of Education
programs for NAMI South Carolina, the state
chapter for the National Alliance on Mental
Illness.
Brenda Parker, MA, CACII – is the Director of
Child, Adolescent, and Family Services for
Catawba Community Mental Health Center.
Sylvia Senbel, LCSWA – is Program Manager
of School Based Services at the South
Carolina Department of Mental Health.
Chris Burkhart, M.Ed. – is a School Based
Therapist with Catawba Community Mental
Health Center.
Lisa Davis, MA – is a therapist at Catawba
Community Mental Health Center and has
been TFCBT trained for 10 years.
Nicole Serluco - is a 23 year old living with a
diagnosis of Oppositional Defiant Disorder
and Major Depression.
Kaitlyn Buchko - is an 18 year old living with
rapid-cycling bipolar disorder.
Kelly Hudson, LMSW – is a clinic based
therapist for Catawba Community Mental
Health Center.
Jeri Worley, LMSW – is a School Based
Therapist for Catawba Community Mental
Health Center.
Carolyn Garland, RN – is a Nurse II at
Catawba Family Center and Nurse Manager I
for Catawba Community Mental Health
Center.

1. Merge onto I-77 S via Exit 38 toward
Columbia. (Cross into South Carolina.)
2. Take Exit 65, and turn left onto SC
Hwy 9 toward Richburg.
3. Turn left at first curb cut, and turn
immediately to your left onto
Commerce Drive. Conference Center is
on the right.
From I-85 S (from Greenville)
1. Merge onto I-385 S. (After 23 miles, I385 becomes I-26 E.)
2. Take Exit 54, SC-72, toward
Clinton/Whitmire.
3. Turn left onto SC-72.
4. Turn left onto Union Street/SC-72E in
Whitmire. Continue to follow SC-72E.
5. After 27 miles, SC-72 E becomes West
End Street/SC-121/SC-276/SC-72.
6. Turn right onto US-321 Bypass.
7. Turn right onto SC Hwy 9.
8. Travel approximately 11 miles, go over
I-77 and take first curb cut to the left
after bridge. Turn immediately to your

Understand facts of prevalence of mental illness in
youth

Identify signs and symptoms of ADHD, depression,
bipolar, OCD, conduct disorder, oppositional
defiant disorder, and anxiety disorders

Discuss what school staff can do to help connect
children and families to services
“Enhance Your Knowledge of Mental Health
Diagnosis”

Gain enhanced personal knowledge on different
diagnosis and criteria for each diagnosis for
children and adolescents.
“Trauma and TFCBT for the School Nurse”

Understand trauma and symptoms of trauma and
learn how to look beyond behaviors to the
symptom.

Identify traumatized clients and know how to
make a referral for services.

Understand an overview of TFCBT skills,
assessment and understand the role of the mental
health agency in trauma treatment.

provider of continuing nursing education by The South
Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by
the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission
of Accreditation. This nursing continuing education
activity approval #1212-031-PR-204 has been approved
for 6.5 hours.
Social Work: This program has been approved by the SC
Board of Social Work Examiners for 2.0 clock hours of
social work and 4.5 clock hours NON-social work
continuing education.
Mid-Carolina AHEC, Inc: This program is approved for 0.6
CEU’s (6.5 clock hours) of continuing education by MidCarolina AHEC, Inc. and meets the SC AHEC Best
Practices Standards. Participants must attend 90% of the
