Romantic Country Weddings
Brickendon is one of Australia’s oldest privately owned estates dating from 1824
when the first William Archer settled the land. Yearning for the English countryside, he set
about developing his land the traditional English way with miles of white flowering hawthorn
hedgerows, extensive gardens surrounding the elegant Georgian Homestead and a quaint
rustic farming village for the convict workers. This magnificent family owned property is
now open for weddings and receptions providing the most unique and picturesque country
setting in Tasmania.
Set amongst a private cottage garden in the historic Farm Village is the most
enchanting gothic chapel. Built by convict labour in the 1850’s, the Chapel is ideal for small
and intimate weddings. With its steep pitched shingle roof, original stained glass windows
and the mellow timbers of the original huon pine pews, the Brickendon Chapel is the perfect
start to your special day. Surrounded by a quaint cottage garden the Chapel is suitable for
up to 35 guests seated or approx 50 (with some standing). If you have a larger guest list,
the Sussex Barn with its high gabled roof and memorabilia of days gone by, may be
suitable for your ceremony.
If you would prefer a garden wedding, the gardens surrounding the Chapel or the
main Brickendon Gardens both offer the picturesque locations. With the backdrop of the
1829 Georgian Homestead, the main gardens feature extensive plantings of old roses,
perennials and 170 year old English and exotic trees - the setting requires little else but the
decision on the date and time of the wedding.
For a reception with a difference, the 1830’s Sussex Barn with its kerosene
lanterns and working horse memorabilia sets the scene. From a casual get together to a
fully catered silver service wedding reception the barn provides atmosphere and ambience
that cannot be found anywhere else. We are very flexible with your decorating themes and
look forward to assisting you in making the venue truly yours. This building is suitable for
guest numbers from 30 to 140.
If any of your guests or the wedding party requires accommodation, we can offer
either an Historic Cottage or one of our Farm Cottages. All cottages are fully self-catering
and provide a good base for the bridal party or relatives and friends who do not wish to
drive after the wedding. In particular our Gardener’s Cottage is very quaint and is very
private so is an ideal spot for your wedding night.

We offer a discount of 5% if Brickendon is the location for both your Wedding
Ceremony and Reception. (Rates are GST inclusive)
Wedding Ceremony Venue includes table with cloth, chair and guest chair
set up. If the weather is inclement, a backup location of the Entrance Barn at
the Farm village is available. We allow for one change of venue on the
wedding day, if a further change is requested an additional fee of $80 is
applicable.
Barn Hire includes access to barn at 10.30 am and assistance with set up on
day prior to reception, use of tables, chairs, decorator items and a large
infrared heater. If additional heaters are required there is a charge of $50 per
heater.
It would be appreciated if the Barn could be left in a tidy condition by 10.30
am the day after. If you require us to remove your empty bottles a recycling
fee of $50 is charged.
If a cooler trailer requires power a fee of $25 is charged
Music is required to finish by 11.00, however if the farm cottages are booked
by your wedding guests we can negotiate a finish time.
Due to the noise level of a live band and loud dance music, we either require
the 3 farm cottages to be reserved for your guests or a fee of $150 per
cottage is charged as we are unable to rent them out to other guests.
Wedding Guest Accommodation
We have a range of cottages that can be reserved for you and your wedding guests
and we offer a discount if your wedding and reception are held at Brickendon.
Deposit and Cancellation Policy
A deposit of $200 is required to confirm a Wedding Ceremony.
A deposit of $400 is required to confirm a Wedding Reception.
A deposit of $50 per cottage is required for Accommodation.
Once the deposit has been paid, if cancellation occurs, we reserve the right to
withhold the deposit monies if the venue cannot be re booked.
