Our Mission: Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Education Department and Community will provide culturally
relevant education programs. We will develop responsible citizens and lifelong learners, who will be
prepared for the future.
Overview
 Current Grade(s): Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Education Department currently oversees students
starting from Head Start (3yrs of age) to Grade 12. Our school system runs out of 3 locations.
 Head Start and Nursery programs are run from 2 side by side portables located on the west side
of the main school site.
 Kindergarten to Grade 6 programs are run from the main school site.
 Grade 7 to Grade 12 programs are run from the Sioux Valley High School site. This school is
located in Brandon M.B.
Curriculum: Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Education Department adheres to all provincial curriculum
requirements from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Also, we have taken part in the grade 12 provincial
examinations over the past 6 years. Currently we are taking part in our first year of grade 3, 7 and 8
assessments.
Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Education Department promotes culturally relevant curriculum in all
education areas. History units in all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 8 are a requirement for all
teachers to create and implement. Sioux Valley High School offers a MB education department
recognized grade 11 SIC course entitled “The History of Sioux Valley”. This course is taught using a time
line and runs from pre-contact to the current state.
Planning: Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Education Department is currently on the 3rd year of a 3 year
school plan. We are currently working with Specialists from the Manitoba First Nation Education
Resource Center to assist us in the development of our next 3 year plan. Currently, Sioux Valley
Administration has implemented the curricular based weekly plans from Kindergarten to grade 12.
Teachers are required to submit curricular based weekly plans every Monday morning prior to teaching
occurring. This ensures Manitoba Curriculum outcomes are being met for all students attending the
Sioux valley Schools.
