Page 2 of 5 IEO MOBILITY SCHOLARSHIPS 2015/16 TERMS AND CONDITIONS Scholarship Awards Financial support is available in two rounds, on a competitive basis, to current NTU undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to undertake a study, work or volunteering-related international experience for a period of time as follows: Round 1: Travel is in Spring or Summer 2016 (mobility must end by 31 August 2016); Round 2: Travel is during 2016/17 academic year (departure must be prior to 31 December 2016) Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of £250 per student. Application Details Eligibility criteria: In order to be considered for an IEO Mobility Scholarship a student must be: An enrolled NTU undergraduate or postgraduate student in the 2015/16 academic year. Criteria for success: In order for an application to be successful, the IEO Mobility experience must be: An international study, work or volunteering experience outside the UK; NTU approved (see below for examples of experiences that would normally be approved); NTU Course Leader or Personal Tutor supported; Strong personal statement; Travel must take place in the time period indicated (see above) for the round for which the student makes an application. Exclusions: Students in receipt of any other travel funding from NTU, e.g. Erasmus+, NTU International Travel Scholarship, Santander Travel Scholarship Award, Summer Mobility Scholarship, Vice-Chancellors Scholarship Award, other NTU Travel Award etc.; and/or Student taking part in the NTU International Volunteering Scheme; and/or Students whose period of mobility does not occur in the dates indicated for either round (see above). What can be funded? The IEO Mobility Scholarship aims to encourage the international experience of NTU students. Scholarships can be used for travel (economy only), accommodation, subsistence and other necessary costs for an overseas visit. There is no set format for your IEO Mobility experience and examples of activities that would normally be approved include: Work placements or internships abroad; Optional course trips or study visits; Volunteering activities (excluding NTU International Volunteering Scheme); Language courses abroad; Summer schools (Round 1 only) or short courses. The International Exchange Office will consider all applications fairly and consistently and will approve projects where it is considered that the activity will advance the international experience of the student and there is academic support for the student to undertake the proposed activity. The decision of the International Exchange Office is final and there is no opportunity to appeal against this decision. Students can only receive one IEO Mobility Scholarship per academic year. Application deadlines: The application process opens and closes for each round as follows: Round Applications open Applications close Round 1 5 October 2015 1 December 2015 (9am) Round 2 1 February 2016 3 May 2016 (9am) Page 3 of 5 The University reserves the right to discontinue the IEO Mobility Scholarship scheme at any time without prior notice. The terms and conditions associated with this scheme are contained within this document. Submission of an application for an award constitutes your full acceptance of these terms and conditions. Notification process: You will receive email notification of the outcome of your application by the following dates: Round 1: 7 December 2015 Round 2: 9 May 2016 Successful applicants will be sent a bank transfer form and a health and safety form after the notification date. Both forms need to be completed and returned as soon as possible. Upon receipt of these fully completed forms, the scholarship will be transferred into your bank account within 10 working days. Proof of travel (copy of travel ticket or official flight itinerary confirmation) must be provided to the International Exchange Office upon request. Failure to comply with this condition will result in an immediate requirement for you to repay the Award in full. Notification of any changes A change in your circumstances may affect your entitlement to an IEO Mobility Scholarship. Please therefore note that should any of the following changes or any other changes not listed here that impact on your funding status occur, you must inform the International Exchange Office immediately: Receipt of additional travel related funding; Transfer out from NTU to another institution; Deferral/Suspension of studies; Withdrawal from studies; Any changes to the submitted International Mobility plan, including early return; No longer able to undertake your planned International Mobility. The International Exchange Office will review any changes and will advise you if your change in circumstance has affected your scholarship. Where a change in circumstances has resulted in a scholarship being reduced or withdrawn and a transfer of the funding has already been made, you will be required to repay funds to NTU within 15 working days. Completed application forms will be shared with your named academic; Travel must take place in the time period indicated for the round (see above) for which the student makes an application; If you are successful and funds are transferred to your bank account but you then do not travel OR you travel but return early, you must repay the award in full unless the reason for not travelling or early return was due to a certified medical reason or Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) travel advice and in such circumstances NTU may request a full or partial repayment of the award; The NTU Health and Safety Form must be completed and returned to the International Exchange Office prior to departure; NTU reserves the right to not award an otherwise eligible student when the University feels there is a significant risk posed to the student by the student’s proposed international experience project plan; If, in the reasonable opinion of NTU, you have failed to provide us with all relevant information or have supplied false or misleading information relating to your application, we shall be entitled to seek full reimbursement from you. In addition, the Student Code of Behaviour may be invoked and disciplinary action may be taken against you; Page 4 of 5 Recipients of a IEO Mobility Scholarship are required to submit a short account of their international experience to the International Exchange Office 3 months from the return date of travel as indicated in the student’s application form. Students are encouraged to be creative with their submissions and use any format you wish e.g. written submission with photographs, video journal, PowerPoint presentation, poster, digital media such as blog link, YouTube link etc.). These submissions will be used for promotion of the IEO Mobility Scholarship and display by the International Exchange Office. Nottingham Trent University reserves the right to reclaim (in full) any scholarship award from students who fail to submit an account of their International Experience.
