SOUTH WEST CHALLENGE INFORMATION SHEET (Read carefully. Please note changes from last year) DARDANUP EQUESTRIAN CENTRE ONE DAY! Saturday 5th December 2015 Includes: Dressage-Hack-Working Stock HorseTime Trial- Cattle This event is open to all breeds of horse. The only condition is that the competitor is to be an ASHS Member or pays a “Temporary Membership Fee”. This is $15 if a Youth (Less than 18 years) or $40 if an adult We welcome everyone and would encourage riders who are not experienced at Stock Horse events to have a go. We have Branch Coaches and experienced Stock Horse riders who are very willing to help and encourage. The Challenge There is a Young Horse Challenge, an Encouragement Challenge, a Youth Challenge (8 to under 18 years) and an Open Challenge. These consist of a Dressage, Hack, Working Stock Horse, Time Trial, and Cattle (Campdraft) section. Points are awarded out of 100 for the Dressage, Hack, WSH, and Cattle Section. The four scores are added and then the time of the Time Trial taken (in seconds) is deducted off the total. The winner has the highest points. So have a go at all sections! Each rider can only enter one horse in the Challenges, with the exception of the Young Horse Challenge. In this event a rider can enter and then enter an older horse in the Open Challenge. The rider may not enter the Encouragement or Youth, only the Young Horse and Open. Please refer to order of Events. Ages- Ages of youth is age on the day. Youth Judging 8-under 21 years; Youth Challenge 8-under 18 years. Open 18 and over. Youth Judging (Ages 8 to under 21 years) An important part of the day for those less than 21 years is Youth Judging. This is an event where the youth judge four led horses and then this is compared to an officiating judge’s results. Youth Judging is absolutely huge in the ASHS in the eastern states and has been extremely competitive in WA. Karen Mori will be coming from Perth to give an “information and teaching” session for the youth (and the adults). Youths will have an opportunity to learn how to actually do it and what it entails. Then later in the day we will actually have a Youth Judging Competition. We would just encourage you to have a go! The more you do it, the better you will get. Entry is free. Winners of Youth Judging events like this across WA will be invited to the ASH WA Championships in March 2016. The winner of that has the opportunity to be invited, at the discretion of the WA ASHS Management Council to compete at the ASHS Youth Judging National Final at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Easter the following year. This trip is subsidised by the ASHS of WA. Campdraft(Cattle Section) The Cattle section is like a Campdraft except that some pegs are removed. Also the competitor will be given the opportunity to run outside in the arena even if “cracked off” in the camp. In this situation the cow will be separated from the others in the camp for the competitor and the competitor will then take the cow outside in an attempt to get a score outside. We will explain this more on the day. The Programme-The Committee reserves the right to alter the programme without notice. Catering This is a one-day event so “Bring your own everything”. The Dardanup store is close by and will be forewarned. Please avail yourselves of their service. Accommodation and Ground Fees You are encouraged to stay and socialise and enjoy yourself. The clubrooms are open with hot showers. There is a camping fee of $5 per person or $10 per family for each night if you stay at the grounds. As well there is a fee of $5 per horse per competition-day. If you are unsure of what your cost might be please don’t hesitate to ring.
