Classification for the 4 organisms
Eastern Gray Squirrel:
This is classified an animal because it moves around to get its food.
This is classified a chordate because it has a backbone.
This is classified a mammal because it has hair/fur, they give birth to live squirrels, they feed
their babies with milk, they are warm-blooded.
This is classified a rodentia because they are mostly small in size, mostly nocturnal.
This is classified a sciuridae because that family is medium size rodents.
This is classified a sciurus because it contains most of the common bushy tailed squirrels in
North America, Europe, Temperate Asia, Central America, and South America.
This is classified a sciurus carolinensis because that’s what the eastern gray squirrels species is
and it is native to the eastern and Midwestern united states.
The Eastern Gray Squirrel is the most see mammal in this area they spend a lot of their times in
the trees. They can been seen in yards, gardens in small towns like Sandpoint but they usually
live in forests and they live in trees year round. You sometimes see big bunches of leaves in the
trees and those are usually squirrel nests, they also use old woodpecker holes. They mate in
winter and have a litter in spring and in late summer; there is about 2 to 3 babies in each litter.

Bald Eagle
This is classified as an animal because it moves to get its own food.
This is classified as a chordate because it has a back bone.
This is classified as a bird because they are warm-blooded, they have hollow bones and feathers,
they are born from eggs, and they can fly for at least a little bit.
This is classified as a falconiformes because it goes into one of these categories: Hawks, Eagles,
and vultures.
This is classified as an accipitridae because it is in a family of small to large birds with strongly
hooked bills.
I couldn’t find anything for the genus on the Bald Eagle.
This is classified as a haliaeetus leucocephalus because that is what the species is of a bald eagle.
The Bald Eagle is one of the biggest birds in the world and grows up to 3 feet tall and a
wingspan of 7 feet! Only when they are adults do they get the white head and white tail. They
like to live near water so they can catch fish and they can also swim. In a dive they can get up to
200 miles per hour! They breed when they are 5 years old and the male and female stay together
for their entire life unless one of them dies.

This is classified as a reptile because it gives birth to live babies, they feed their babies with
milk, and they are warm-blooded.

This is classified as a chelydra because it is one of the 2 extant genera.
This is classified as a chelydra serpentine because that is what its species is.
The Common Snapping Turtle is the largest turtle in Virginia. They can get up to 45 pounds and
up to 28 inches long. They are mostly active at night, and they feed underwater in the day time.
They like muddy lakes and ponds, and they will eat just about anything. They lay about 20-40
eggs at a time and they about the size of a ping pong ball. They will sometimes release a foul
odor.

water, and it is cold blooded.

I couldn’t find anything for the family of the eastern newt.
This is classified as a notophthalmus and they are known commonly as North American Newts.
This is classified as a notophthalmus viridescens because that is what its species is.
The Eastern Newt is also known as the Red-spotted Newt and they can get up to 5 inches long.
The larvae eat small water insects and they leave the water in late summer. They don’t have gills
but they do have to keep their skin wet. As they get older they begin to get darker and become to
look more like an adult. After they become an adult they spend the rest of their life near the
water.

This is classified as a culpes because it is a genus of the canidae family.
This is classified as a vulpus vulpus because that is what its species is
The Red Fox has a reddish fur and the tip of the tail is white and bushy. They are about 3 and a
half feet long and 16 inches long. They are very shy animals and you rarely see them and they
are most active at night. Their litters can be from 1 to 10 pups and when they are old enough to
meat the mom will throw up meat that she has eaten before. The pups leave their den once they
get to 7 month old and the parents go different ways. They hunt by stalking their prey.

can kill a dog. They can see really well in the night and can hear really well, too.
