Regional Membership Meeting & Webcast Tuesday, September 18, 2012 Live at DoubleTree by Hilton, Irvine Spectrum ~and~ Live Webcasts at Various California Locations* "Perception Is Everything: Geophysics for Geotechnical Engineers" Presented by: Joseph E. McKinney, PG, GP T here are several geophysical techniques available to the geotechnical engineer. These techniques can help answer questions about the subsurface when conventional drilling or other exploration methods are not feasible or more economically acquired information between borings is desired. This presentation will survey some of these geophysical techniques and discuss their applicability through case histories. J oseph E. McKinney, PG, GP, had been an engineering geophysicist for Earth Systems Southwest since 2004, where he is executive vice president and senior geophysicist. His areas of expertise include seismic refraction/refraction microtremor, soil DC resistivity, electrical resistivity imaging, IP/resistivity, CSAMT, ground magnetics, gravity, vibration monitoring, concrete integrity testing, and rockfall hazard evaluation. Prior to 2004, Mr. McKinney was an exploration geophysicist for Zonge Geosciences in Reno, Nevada. In 1985, he co-founded Great Basin Geophysical, specializing in gold, silver, and base metals exploration.
