Overnight: Dubrovnik DAY 2 – DAY 3: DUBROVNIK At leisure in Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is known as the “Jewel of Croatia”. This medieval city is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and sits atop a rocky peninsula which juts into the sparkling Adriatic. Secluded bays and coves offer the perfect getaway. The old town is the ultimate expression of architectural, artistic and cultural masterpieces. The huge walls are still intact. The churches, monasteries, palaces, wide marble paved squares, steep cobble-stepped streets and tall private houses have remained unchanged for centuries. We suggest a visit to the elegant resort of Cavtat, 20 km from Dubrovnik. Cavtat has a spectacular setting and landscape, and a great variety of cultural monuments and treasures. The sun-drenched beaches and beautiful seas compliment the cultural experience, making Cavtat an ideal holiday spot. Overnight: Dubrovnik (B) DAY 4: DUBROVNIK - SPLIT Collect your rental car (Dubrovnik Downtown office). Explore Dubrovnik further or drive to Split. We suggest a visit to Korcula, the alleged birthplace of the famous seafarer Marco Polo. Korcula is blessed with centuries-old turrets, mansions, cathedrals, museums and narrow stone streets. Overnight: Split. (B) DAY 5 – DAY 6: SPLIT At leisure in Split. Split is one of the sunniest places in Europe. This historic center lies within the imposing walls of Diocletian’s Palace. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cultural and entertainment on offer in Split is extremely rich, particularly in the summer, when the city squares, yards and other areas turn into large open-air stages. (Optional tours on request). We suggest a visit to the famous “Zlatni Rat” beach known as the “Golden Horn” and reputed to be the most beautiful in the Adriatic on the island of Brac or the fragrant island of Hvar; known for its amazing works of art, purple lavender fields and top class wines made from the indigenous grape varieties (Passenger and car ferry tickets to be purchased on the spot at Split port). Overnight: Split. (B) DAY 7: SPLIT - PLITVICE Explore Split further or drive to Plitvice. We suggest that you drive via Trogir, a medieval city founded by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trogir is famous for its beautiful Venetian Gothic stone buildings, cultural and historical monuments, art and architecture. You should also not miss Zadar, fascinating to all those who respect historical monuments. If time permits, we suggest an afternoon hike of the Plitvice upper lakes, a magical world of animals, moss, forests, sunlight and a string of crystal clear emerald lakes that spill into each other, forming cascades of thundering waterfalls. Overnight: Plitvice (B) DAY 8: PLITVICE At leisure in Plitvice. The Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites is famous for its natural beauty, its diversity and harmony of shapes and colours. The Plitvice Lakes were shaped by limestone sediments and minerals spread by water flow and absorbed by plants and trees. Over time these turned to stone, a unique phenomenon of the Karst region. Tour the Plitvice Lakes National Park, a magical world of animals, moss, forests, sunlight and a string of sixteen crystal clear emerald lakes that spill into each other, forming cascades of thundering waterfalls. This area was proclaimed a National Park in 1949 and is one of the biggest National Parks in Croatia. Overnight: Plitvice. (B) DAY 9: PLITVICE - OPATIJA Drive to Opatija. The contrasts of sea and mountains, green parks and blue ocean, old buildings and modern comforts, makes Opatija an attractive town. Overnight: Opatija. (B) DAY 10 – DAY 11: OPATIJA Day at leisure in Opatija. This is known as the city of “Roses and Magnolias”. This city, which boasts a suitable climate, lush gardens and beautiful villas, is a very elegant resort not to be missed. We suggest you explore the Istrian peninsular popular for its Venetian architecture, Roman remains and beach-life. Overnight: Opatija.
