CROATIA SELF-DRIVE (14 days) 2014
DAY 1: DUBROVNIK
Arrive Dubrovnik, transfer to your hotel.
Overnight: Dubrovnik
DAY 2 – DAY 3: DUBROVNIK
At leisure in Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is known as the “Jewel of Croatia”. This medieval city is
surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and sits atop a rocky peninsula which juts into the
sparkling Adriatic. Secluded bays and coves offer the perfect getaway. The old town is the
ultimate expression of architectural, artistic and cultural masterpieces. The huge walls are still
intact. The churches, monasteries, palaces, wide marble paved squares, steep cobble-stepped
streets and tall private houses have remained unchanged for centuries.
We suggest a visit to the elegant resort of Cavtat, 20 km from Dubrovnik. Cavtat has a
spectacular setting and landscape, and a great variety of cultural monuments and treasures. The
sun-drenched beaches and beautiful seas compliment the cultural experience, making Cavtat an
ideal holiday spot.
Overnight: Dubrovnik (B)
DAY 4: DUBROVNIK - SPLIT
Collect your rental car (Dubrovnik Downtown office). Explore Dubrovnik further or drive to Split.
We suggest a visit to Korcula, the alleged birthplace of the famous seafarer Marco Polo. Korcula
is blessed with centuries-old turrets, mansions, cathedrals, museums and narrow stone streets.
Overnight: Split. (B)
DAY 5 – DAY 6: SPLIT
At leisure in Split. Split is one of the sunniest places in Europe. This historic center lies within
the imposing walls of Diocletian’s Palace. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cultural
and entertainment on offer in Split is extremely rich, particularly in the summer, when the city
squares, yards and other areas turn into large open-air stages. (Optional tours on request).
We suggest a visit to the famous “Zlatni Rat” beach known as the “Golden Horn” and reputed to
be the most beautiful in the Adriatic on the island of Brac or the fragrant island of Hvar; known
for its amazing works of art, purple lavender fields and top class wines made from the indigenous
grape varieties (Passenger and car ferry tickets to be purchased on the spot at Split port).
Overnight: Split. (B)
DAY 7: SPLIT - PLITVICE
Explore Split further or drive to Plitvice. We suggest that you drive via Trogir, a medieval city
founded by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trogir is
famous for its beautiful Venetian Gothic stone buildings, cultural and historical monuments, art
and architecture. You should also not miss Zadar, fascinating to all those who respect historical
monuments. If time permits, we suggest an afternoon hike of the Plitvice upper lakes, a magical
world of animals, moss, forests, sunlight and a string of crystal clear emerald lakes that spill into
each other, forming cascades of thundering waterfalls.
Overnight: Plitvice (B)
DAY 8: PLITVICE
At leisure in Plitvice. The Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites is
famous for its natural beauty, its diversity and harmony of shapes and colours. The Plitvice Lakes
were shaped by limestone sediments and minerals spread by water flow and absorbed by plants
and trees. Over time these turned to stone, a unique phenomenon of the Karst region. Tour the
Plitvice Lakes National Park, a magical world of animals, moss, forests, sunlight and a string of
sixteen crystal clear emerald lakes that spill into each other, forming cascades of thundering
waterfalls. This area was proclaimed a National Park in 1949 and is one of the biggest National
Parks in Croatia.
Overnight: Plitvice. (B)

and modern comforts, makes Opatija an attractive town.

Roman remains and beach-life.
