Common Core Aligned Lesson Plan
Subject: Geometry
Unit: Properties of a Triangle
Week: 5
Teacher: Mr. Ives
LESSON ELEMENT: Triangle Sum and Exterior Angle Theorems
Common Core Learning Standards Addressed:
Grade: 10-11
Day: 4
Rocinante High School
STUDENT-FRIENDLY TRANSLATION
7-G.02 (Draw (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and with technology) geometric shapes with given conditions. Focus on constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the
conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle.)
G-CO.06;
G-CO.10 (Prove theorems about triangles. Theorems include: measures of interior angles of a triangle sum to 180°; base angles of isosceles triangles are congruent; the segment joining midpoints of two
sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side and half the length; the medians of a triangle meet at a point.)
Learning Goals and Objectives: (What will students know & be able
to do as a result of this lesson?)
The student ill be able to determine if three given lengths can
denote a triangle and the will be able to find a missing angle
given the other two angles.
The student will be able to find the external angle of a triangle
given the two remote angles and find a remote angle given the
other remote angle and the corresponding exterior angle.
I can use the Triangle sum
theorem and thee Exterior
Angle Theorem.
Vocabulary Support: (What vocabulary will student need for this
lesson?)
rigid, scalene triangle, equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle,
midsegment, adjacent interior angles, remote interior angles,
exterior angles, vertex angle of an isosceles triangle, altitude, and
median.
I understand the vocabulary
of triangles.
Formative Assessment Criteria for Success: (What does success on
this lesson’s outcomes look like?)
The student will complete the assignment with a rubric of 7 or
higher.
All notes and diagrams will be complete in their data folder.
I will complete the
assignment.
Activities/Tasks: (What learning experiences will students engage in?)
Slideshow on triangles

Reflection
+ Agile Mind animations are excellent for the Triangle Inequality.
- Agile Mind does NOT have enough practice on using the Exterior Angle Theorem.
∆ Add practice from other resources.
