Wildly Important Goal (Power Standard): Conventions 6: Students will
be able to identify and use subject-verb agreement in their writing along
with knowing and understanding the use of possessive nouns.
Essential knowledge for that goal:
Subject-Verb Agreement Steps:
1. Define what a subject-verb agreement is.
2. Knowledge of the difference between singular
and plural subjects.
Using Possessive Noun Steps:
1. Define what a possessive noun is.
2. Knowledge of symbols used and two ways to
make noun possessive.

How will we respond to students who have difficulty?
Read several of the linking words and phrases in the
body of the literary analysis. Model how to vary linking
words and phrases that help the author and reader to
move between ideas.

Guide partners to identify linking words and

the group.
