How do we use the Environment?
It is very important how we use the environment. People live in urban areas. The way we live causes
problems for the environment. The main problems are:

2. cutting trees
Pollution
Pollution is a very big problem in the world today. It is also a big problem in the U.A.E. There are
three types of pollution.
a) When waste (it is also called rubbish, litter or garbage) is collected it is
usually burnt. Emissions1 (poisonous gases) from burning waste make
people ill.
b) Some coastal areas have become polluted. This is caused by waste being
put in the water. When this happens the water becomes polluted. It is unhealthy for
tourists. Also, polluted water is dangerous for marine2 life.
c) Pollution from vehicles is very big problem. Vehicles3 let out carbon monoxide
from their engines. This is a poisonous gas. Carbon monoxide damages the
ozone layer. This causes global warming. Also, Emissions from some gases
make people ill.
Deforestation
The earth’s climate is getter warmer. One reason why this is happening is because
humans are chopping4 too many trees. This is called deforestation. However, in the
U.A.E. the government has planted millions of palm trees. This is good. Trees are good
for the environment and the climate.
