Ashville 28-26 Fulneck
The U18 side played their first game of the year against Fulneck School. The game was a tense affair
with Ashville squandering early chances to take control of the first half. This allowed Fulneck to grab
the lead thanks to some consistent shooting from the top of the key. Whilst Ashville had worked the
ball inside the Fulneck defence we struggled to convert the lay up opportunities which is possibly
indicative of the lack of game time these boys have had to date.
With a 13 – 9 deficit at the break Ashville decided to increase the intensity and try pressure their
bigger players into making mistakes. The change in tempo made a huge difference straight away as
Fulneck fell off the required pace. Our boys gradually clawed their way back into the game and with
debutant Ben Schomaker winning most of the rebounds this gave us a platform to build upon.
Captain Patrick Barnhill made some important interceptions and the team cohesion was far more
evident as the half progressed. Ashville stretched their lead to 5 points with just a minute remaining
but despite letting 3 points in before the end the boys held firm to give themselves a win. Final score
Ashville 28 – 26 Fulneck. MVP award goes to Ben Schomaker on debut.
Team lineup: Dylan James, Ryan Chu, Ben Schomaker, Bradley Keith, Jeremy Choy, Patrick Barnhill

Senior Basketball v GSAL and Woodhouse Grove
GSAL v Ashville 18 -18 draw
GSAL v Woodhouse Grove 15-16
Woodhouse Grove v Ashville 23-16
The Ashville senior basketball team played host to Leeds GS and Woodhouse Grove on Wednesday
afternoon. The triangular tournament, with three shorter than normal games, led to some exciting
basketball and closely contested matches.
The first game saw a young Ashville team take on Grammar School at Leeds. The lead swapped
hands several times during the match and it was with a steady nerve that a Leeds player managed to
score with one of two free shots in the dying seconds of the game to secure a draw, 18 - 18. This was
a match that the Ashville players will look back on and realise that with a lower foul count and more
care when in possession of the ball they should have won.
Leeds then moved straight into the second game and were narrowly beaten by a confident
Woodhouse Grove side 16 – 15.
The final match enabled Ashville to test themselves against the buoyant Bradford team. Ashville
started slowly and fell several points behind in the opening minutes. By midgame Ashville had
clawed themselves back into the game and were only one point adrift. Some inaccurate shooting

and a lack of a rebounding presence enabled Woodhouse to pull clear and record a victory of 23 –
16.
Special mention needs to be made of the effort that the whole squad put into their individual
performances and how hard they worked as a unit in defence. It was an enjoyable afternoon and the
Ashville team are looking forward to their next game on December 4th against Rishworth.
