State statute requires that such students provide their school district with a written description of curriculum to be taught prior to the establishment of a home-based program. Please read statute below. CRS 22-33-104.5 (3)(b) A child who is participating in a nonpublic home-based educational program shall not be subject to compulsory school attendance as provided in this article; except that any child who is habitually truant, as defined in section 22-33-107 (3), at any time during the last six months that the child attended school before proposed enrollment in a nonpublic home-based educational program may not be enrolled in the program unless the child's parents first submit a written description of the curricula to be used in the program along with the written notification of establishment of the program required in paragraph (e) of this subsection (3) to any school district within the state. In School District 11 both the Notice of Intent to Homeschool and the written description of the curricula to be used in the program must be filed with the Office of the Homeschool Liaison before a child may be removed from school. The following page of the Written Description of Curricula document is designed to be a Notice of Intent to homeschool. The first four pages of the Written Description of Curricula document cover subject areas required by state statute. You must provide a plan (how many hours per day, and concepts to be taught), as well as the title, author, publisher, and table of contents page for each book you plan to use to teach the required subjects before the School District 11 Home School Liaison can approve your curriculum In the event that you will not be using a formal text but rather a mixture of materials for one particular subject area, all materials to be used should be listed along with the table of contents for each book, (photocopies are more desirable). Your completed packet must be provided to the Homeschool Liaison for Colorado School District 11 before your child is removed from public school. District 11 does not provide any parents with curriculum if they wish to exercise their option to homeschool. If you wish your student to get credit for the work they do at home then you must provide the school with a portfolio of work for each subject, that will be evaluated for credit by the appropriate department or individual at the school to which you are seeking admission. Providing a portfolio is no guarantee that credit will be awarded to that student. If a student does not have or provide a portfolio the final examination for the course in which credit is being sought can be administered to the student at the discretion of the school to which you are seeking admission. If you have any questions please feel free to call the Home School Liaison at 328-3000.
