RECREATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR (WMC/WTA)

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting the Recreation Program Coordinator in providing a safe and pleasant environment for all members using the fitness facilities / active living programs at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, including

Fitness Centre supervision, personal training, equipment maintenance and cleaning, membership growth and retention, employee supervision and scheduling.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Facilitate inclusive, multi-generational fitness and active living programs for WMC members, and residents of the Township of Woolwich. Assist in fitness programming updates (schedule, classes, changes, announcements, etc.) Teach group fitness classes as required.

Confirm that clients have completed the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q developed by

Health Canada)

Act as a point of contact – Tours, programming, partners and general inquiries. Schedule clients for fitness related orientations, new member consults, personal training appointments

Assist with events/workshops, Fitness Centre promotion and advertising (including Personal Training,

Membership specials, etc ), relating to health, fitness, and well-being

Supervise activities within the fitness facilities during posted supervised hours, watch for unsafe activity in order to prevent injuries or accidents and instruct members on proper fitness techniques and the use of all equipment

Ensure compliance with Canadian Fitness Safety Standards, and other Federal, Provincial and Municipal Acts,

Legislations and Policies.

Promote membership sales and retention, to include partnership development (including, but not limited to

Corporate partnerships).

Ensure the site, equipment and supplies are appropriate to the activity. Assists with the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance and inspection program for fitness equipment.

Assist with membership reports/statistics

Assist with purchasing of supplies and equipment as required, within the parameters of the budget and

Purchasing Policy

Perform other duties as required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates with Recreation staff to identify facility / program needs and special events requirements.

Ensure that staff works safely according to the requirements of the Township and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, to improve safety standards and risk management policies and procedures.

Ensure an environment that provides exceptional customer service.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Education and Experience

College diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion preferred

Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) or

CSEP - CEP certification required

At least one year prior experience in a Fitness and Health environment

Standard First Aid /CPR required

CALA, WaterART or YMCA Aqua Fitness Certification preferred

Ontario Fitness Council recognized Fitness Certification preferred

Ability to teach a variety of group fitness classes an asset

The Work Requires:

Team player with strong organizational, communication, presentation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to provide excellence in customer service.

Ability to determine daily priorities and multi-task as required.

Knowledge of aspects of fitness, wellness and basic training principles, fitness theory: skeletal, muscular, neurological, cardiovascular and pulmonary systems and components of a workout from warm-up, cardiovascular and resistance training to cool-down

Ability to supervise staff, provide training, set schedules and delegate tasks.

The ability to work with minimal supervision.

Working knowledge of computer software programs

Able to demonstrate ongoing professional development and knowledge of best practices in the fitness field

 Valid Class G driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle

Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check

Working Conditions

Busy conditions with frequent interruptions

Daytime, evening and weekend shifts as required by program and usage

Rate of Pay

Permanent part time position to a weekly maximum of 24 hours / week

$15.73 / hour
