Mission of the Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior
Produce, apply and disseminate knowledge within the sport sciences, providing an education based on a solid knowledge base of scientific,
technological and pedagogical, and with a high ratio in different experimental contexts sports professionals, aiming, through the human, cultural
scientific and technical of his students, national and international exchanges, and providing services to the community, contribute to the scientific
and technical development of sport and the region's socioeconomic progress, in the scenario of international competitiveness.

“Dear students and applicants to ESDRM,
The only school specializing in teaching the sport network of polytechnic education, and the second encompassing the university and polytechnic
system in number of students at the undergraduate level, we expect you to training that will decisively influence your career. To do this, you can
expect an extremely updated faculty, committed to a strong pedagogical relationship, a student body dedicated and committed to quality service
we provide, and a spirit of mutual academic with unique features and a city ready to welcome young students in academic and personal.
To criticisms can also add that for a decade, we innovated methods of instruction, provide courses with high acceptance in the labor market of
sport, we have created conditions to associate a sound basic training - the cutting-edge knowledge in the field of Sports Sciences - with situations of
experimentation and experience in real close context of professional practice. These factors enable our graduates to grasp, with great success, the
opportunities they face in the sports sector. As part of our degree in Athletic Training, Physical Fitness and Health Sports, Sport of Nature and
Active Tourism, Psychology of Sport and Exercise and Management of Sport Organizations there is an enormous challenge: to combine the pleasure
of acquiring knowledge and learning Know-how in professional Sports.
We continue in this school year, with the Master in Sport, with the provision of expertise in Sports Training, Physical Fitness and Health Sports and
Nature of Physical Education, with an innovative curriculum and also of eminent quality, diversified models, teaching methodologies and highly
skilled teachers and recognized scientific and professional merit. We began the Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Masters in preparing
the Observation and Analysis in Sport and Physical Activity in Special Populations. We will launch yet Postgraduate Diploma in Physical Activity in
Pregnancy and Postpartum.
In the field of training, we begin a new edition of the training program for 2009/10, and is being prepared a set of activities in several areas to
complement the training and specialization. We expect thus having met all the conditions so that students can benefit from another academic year
with the preconditions to educational success and a high-affinity relationship with our institution and the city of Rio Maior.

Located temporarily in the first floor of the Multipurpose Hall of Rio Maior, The Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior, used this building, mainly for its
administrative, teaching, research, library, photocopying and other support services to the business academic.
The activities of teaching, practices are carried out in the excellent sports complex in Rio Maior, managed by DESMOR.
Specifically for activities related to the fitness classes are offered at Gym Fitness, which, being a gym recently, have the main equipment that students can
find in any gym, providing a context identical to the training market work, becomes an excellent training area.
Sport activities in nature are held in different natural areas in the country and abroad. Predominantly, the Óbidos lagoon, the beach of Foz do Arelho, the
Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, Estrela, Lousã, Picos de Europa, among others.
In the scientific field of Sports Sciences, the ESDRM develops the following scientific subfields:








Physical activity and health;
Analysis of motion and motor control;
Sports and recreation;
Exercise physiology;
Sports management;
Optimisation of sports performance;
Pedagogy of sport;
Sports psychology.
The ESDRM has in place the following support units to the students:

Also as part of international mobility, the ESDRM promotes the SOCRATES / ERASMUS exchange of students and teachers.
ESDRM recently became a member of the CENTER FOR RESEARCH IN SPORT AND HEALTH AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT, abbreviated to CIDESD,
unity supra-institutional, technical, scientific and applied research, multidisciplinary network formed by the integration of Nucleus Research (NI), Polytechnic
Institute of Bragança (IPB), Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV), Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior (ESDRM), Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI),
the Instituto Superior da Maia (ISMAI - Centre Research in Sport and Physical Activity - CIDAF) and the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD
- Research Centre for Technological Development in Sport and Health - CIDETEDES).
