Thank you to everyone for attending our fall band concert. A special thanks to
all high school, junior high and elementary teachers for allowing students to
be pulled out of class for lessons to help us prepare for this concert. Thank
you to George Weber, Karrie Boser, Dan Stifter, Tom Otte, custodial staff and
all others involved in making this concert a success. A special thank you to all
parents for encouraging your children to be involved in band and stay involved.
It is such a blessing to work with them each day. Our next concert will be our
Christmas Concert on December 14 at 7 PM. We hope to see you all there!

One of Henry Fillmore’s greatest and most performed marches has a very
catchy melody and introduces cut time to the band. The melody leads into
the dogfight section before we hear a dazzling flute line over the melody.

Can you believe this title! Well, you better believe it, 'cause it's all in
there! This medium tempo original shuffle has a real attitude problem,
and that's what makes it so good! Wailing sax lines and solid brass punches
are really hot, and very catchy. You’ll be singing this the whole way home.

This 70's funk classic makes for a real powerhouse jazz chart! Syncopated
unison riffs over a funky bass line build to an awesome solo section. Some
of you will definitely recognize this one, so tap your foot or sing along!
Beginning with a bold and majestic fanfare, this impressive work unfolds
through a succession of rich, lush harmonizations of the famous hymn tune.
The magnificent conclusion creates a stirring moment you will long
remember! This exciting work perfectly develops, tone control, and
phrasing.

This exciting piece has many inventive rhythmic motives in the brasses
contrast with simple, effective melodic lines in the woodwinds to create a

In his setting of Shenandoah, Ticheli states he was inspired by the freedom
and beauty of the folk melody and by the natural images evoked by the
words, especially the image of a river. This work’s mood ranges from quiet
reflection, through growing optimism, to profound exaltation.
Fire Dance……………………………………………………………………………………David Shaffer
This thrilling overture burns with all the energy of a raging fire! In the
tradition of David's acclaimed composition Tribal Drums, this vibrant
selection offers the exciting percussion and bold brass parts that have
become a hallmark of his work. The mysterious middle section is
highlighted by an enchanting flute melody.

This piece instantly grabs the audience with a dynamic, accented opening
trumpet motif. The melody provided by the trombones gives us a sense of
the rigor and valor of being in the military and that feeling remains during
the melodies and countermelodies throughout the piece.
Greenwillow Portraits…………………………………………………………………Mark Williams
This lyrical work emulates the British folk-song style. This piece in ¾ time
has a very smooth and flowing quality throughout, never hurried. The
melody flows throughout the band and features great dynamic contrast.
Midway March………………………………………………………John Williams arr. John Moss
This tuneful march written for the World War II era movie, “Midway” was
one the most riveting and powerful marches ever written for the silverscreen and features all the sections in this wonderful and memorable closer.
