Welcome Aboard!
Thank you for booking your Direct Flight in Clanton, Alabama! This
year we are welcoming 36 teams in 9 divisions (Multibreed, Open, and
Regular). Direct Flight will be a two-ring tournament both days, so if
conflicts between rings arise, please let us know and we will work on
accommodations. We want this weekend to be fun and stress-free, so
get your Lear Jets and Piper Cubs ready and join us for two days of
aerial acrobatics in the lanes!
Racing information: Stacy Waites and Paul Ferlitto will serve as Air
Traffic Controllers for the duration of our flight.
The racing schedules are attached or can be accessed on the region 14 yahoo group or on our
tournament website: http://www.flyballdogs.com/dixieflyers/
Racing format, team grouping and seeding charts can also be found on our website by going to
the tournament link found above.
Please note that the seed charts and schedules are the same for both days.
Timeline: racing starts at 8AM both days!

Sunday, February 22nd:

 8:00 AM: Racing begins!
Tournament scoring: Teams will receive 1 point for each heat won. Heats ending in a tie will
result in each team receiving ½ of a point.
Placement Ties will be broken by:
1. Head to head
2. If still tied then: best time overall.
Friday Night Green Dog Racing: Please email Diane Ziegler at dziegler65@yahoo.com to
sign up for times. Cost is $10.00 for 10 minutes. Both lanes will be available for use during that
time.
Warm-ups: We will be having 2 minute warm-ups all day on Saturday. Sunday we will start
with two minute warm-ups and possibly continue them all day. We will keep you informed about
the flow on Sunday.
Please have your team ready to go as soon as the prior race is finished in order to keep racing
flowing timely and smoothly.
Ring assignments: We will be running a “turquoise” ring and a “brown” ring. Ring assignments
will be done using the Flyball Geek ring assignment system. To find out which ring you will be
racing in, go to flyballgeek.com and click on the “race link” option for Direct Flight. This can be
accessed on any device capable of using the building’s WIFI or on any smartphone with internet
access. Please refresh often and note that there is a time stamp on the bottom left of the ring
assignments. The time stamp will let you know when the page was last updated. If you have
trouble with this, please let any of the Dixie Flyers know and we will help you.
Traffic Flow in/out of rings: Due to the two rings, we will be limited in how we can access
rings—it will be a little different than in past tournaments at Clanton. Please enter the turquoise
lane from the runback area only, unless you are boxloading.
Awards: We will be providing dog title awards for titles earned at our tournament. Awards will
be provided on Saturday. Sunday will be a “Run and Done.”
Facility: Please clean up after your dogs – poop bags and disposal will be available in the
designated potty areas.
If your club has their own garbage bag(s) in your crating area, please make sure it is emptied
each night into the big garbage cans located in the room with the lanes.
WIFI is available. We will post the password for access to WIFI on the table next to the workers’
raffle prizes.
Kitchen access will be available for all to use. Due to limitations in crating space, everyone will
need to use the kitchen to set up Crock-pots so please keep this in mind when setting up. There
is a refrigerator and ice machine available for everyone. Please use the single-door kitchen
entrance, not the double-door entrance closest to the racing lanes.
Crating: Crating areas will be assigned; you should receive a crating map prior to the
tournament. Please observe the aisles for traffic flow and fire marshal regulations. You will
likely not have a lot of space in your crating area for tables and chairs, but don’t worry. We have
plenty of chairs available in the lanes (8 to be exact)! In addition, all crating in the
classrooms will require a tarp or some type of ground cover under all crates. Last
tournament we had spilled water and other debris on the floor, so we have been asked to put
something under the crates this time to protect the floors.
Directions: Please see our website for directions.
Workers: We will definitely need your help with line and box judging! Two rings mean double
the workers! In addition to running the tournament, the Dixie Flyers will be running several
teams and would appreciate your assistance with keeping the chairs filled. To thank you for
your help filling chairs, we will be offering workers raffles each day. We will attempt to assign
each club specific races to work. Please report to your assigned lane at the first race scheduled
there during your block of races. For example, if you are assigned to the brown lane for races
15-20, but 15 is in the turquoise lane, then you are being asked to work whichever is the NEXT
race in the brown lane after race 15.
Vendors: Dixie Flyer Adam Short of Ambient Exposure Photography will be flying the lanes
to catch the perfect action shots of your Flying Ace. To see some of Adam’s previous flyball
pictures you can go to the following link: http://ambient-exposure-photography.com/flyball.html
Theresa from For Healthy Pets will be vending on Sunday to take care of all your dog food and
treats needs.
Dixie Flyer’s Kimmi Lange will be selling Girl Scout cookies at the tournament on Sunday so
bring some extra cash to satisfy those cravings for Samoas, Tagalongs, and all the other
yummy cookies!
Meals: We are not offering an in-flight meal either day. There are plenty of electrical outlets in
the kitchen for those of you planning lunch in your crating area either day.
We will be planning a lunch break on Saturday only. See the racing schedule for the exact time
of the break.
Dinner Saturday night—if anyone wants to leave their dogs in the building in order to go out to
dinner nearby, let Jeanne Harem know and we can arrange to stay at the building. Otherwise
the building will close two hours after racing ends.
The Dixie Flyers are looking forward to a great flight with you this weekend. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks again!
