Miss Golden Isles 2012 and Miss Golden Isles’ Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant (A Preliminary for the Miss Georgia and Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen Pageant) Dear Perspective Contestant: We are excited that you are considering on becoming a contestant in the 2012 Miss Golden Isles and Miss Golden Isles’ Outstanding Teen Pageant, which will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011. This is a great way to earn some scholarship money and possibly go on to compete for Miss Georgia or for Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen which will be held June 20-23, 2012. Because the Miss America rules do not permit the charging of entry fees for the Miss contestants, only Teen Miss Contestants are required to pay an entry fee of $125.00 which may be secured by a sponsor or sponsors. We encourage you to get sponsors. A sponsor can be an individual, business, organization or club. Sponsors will be listed in our program book and will be recognized at the pageant. Each sponsor will receive one PATRON DONOR ticket for each $50.00 or more donated to the pageant. The National Platform of the Miss American Organization is the Children’s Miracle Network. In conjunction with the Miss America Organization, the Miss Golden Isles contestants will be asked to raise $100.00 each in donations for the Children’s Miracle Network. Information about this will be given at the Orientation meeting on September 10. All monies donated for this cause are tax deductible and will be sent directly to the Miss America Organization. All contestants will be asked to sell tickets to benefit the scholarships. Each contestant will be given ten tickets to sell at the cost of $15.00 each ticket. Additional tickets will be given upon request. Ticket information and tickets will be given to you at the orientation meeting. The girl who raises the most money in ticket sales for her division will be recognized at the pageant with either the Miss Leadership Award or the Teen Miss Leadership Award. Contestants will, also, have the opportunity to compete for the Miss Golden Isles People’s Choice Award or the Miss Golden Isles’ Outstanding Teen People’s Choice Award. You will have the opportunity to sell votes before the pageant. Votes will also be sold before and during Intermission at the pageant. Your friends and family will be able to support you by casting their votes. A People’s Choice sheet and bag (to be decorated by you) will be given to each contestant at orientation. Another award that will be given at the pageant is for the Miss Golden Isles Congeniality and the Miss Golden Isles’ Outstanding Teen Congeniality. You and your peers will have the honor of voting (at the Dress Rehearsal) for a girl in the Miss division and a girl in the Outstanding Teen division who has been the friendliest, kindest, and most sportsman like throughout the pageant. Once again, we will give younger girls (ages 6-12 years old) the joy of being a Princess at the pageant. We are asking each contestant to go ahead and ask one girl to serve as her Princess. A Princess may be a sister, cousin, niece, friend, etc. The cost of being a Princess is $40.00. (Contestants are not required to pay this fee.) Princesses may get a sponsor to pay their $40.00 fee. Their sponsor will be given a PATRON DONOR ticket. We will discuss more details concerning Princesses at Orientation and each contestant will be given a Princess form to pass on to the girl of her choice. Enclosed is a talent request form. As soon as you know your talent, you should submit this form. You may either turn it in with your application, if you have already made your selection, or at the orientation meeting or by the deadline of October 15. It is best to turn it in quickly. No two contestants can have the same music, so the first one to submit the talent request will be the one that will be permitted to perform the selection in question. The postmark date on your envelope or delivery date to me will determine when the form was submitted. You may mail your talent CD-R to me or bring your CD-R (No CD-RW-these will not work) to Alicia Benton (Production Coordinator) by the meeting on Saturday, October 15. No exceptions! Please be sure to have two copies made, one for us and one for you to practice with for the pageant. The photo may be black and white or color. Color doesn’t matter since our program is printed in black and white. You must email the photo to me by October 15. One of the Miss Golden Isles’ board members will be at the meeting on October 15 and will be available to take a head and shoulders photo if you do not email one in by this date.
