This is a great way to earn some scholarship money and possibly go on to compete for the title of Miss Georgia or for the Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen title. Both of these pageants will be held in June, 2010 in Columbus, Georgia. Your Entry Form must be received by me on or before Monday, October 19, 2009. Because the Miss America rules do not permit the charging of entry fees at this level for the Miss contestants, Miss Contestants do not have to pay entry fees to participate in the pageant. Teen Miss Contestants are required to pay an entry fee of $100.00 that may be secured by a sponsor or sponsors. We encourage you to get sponsors. A sponsor can be an individual, business, organization or club. Sponsors will be listed in our program book and recognized at the pageant. Each sponsor will receive a PATRON DONOR ticket for each $50.00 donated to the pageant. We will presenting several additional awards at the pageant and invite you to participate in working toward these awards. The National Platform of the Miss America Organization is the Children’s Miracle Network. In conjunction with the Miss America Organization, each Miss Golden Isles Contestant is required to raise at least $100.00 in donations to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Teen Miss Contestants are asked to help the Miss Contestants. We will be giving a Community Service Award in both the Miss and Teen Miss divisions for the girl in each division who donates the most time and collects the most money for the Children’s Miracle Network. We have set a Fund Raising date to help toward this goal. We hope all the contestants will want to participate in this worthy cause. More information will be given at the Orientation meeting in October. All monies donated to this cause will be sent to the Miss America Organization and is tax deductible. All contestants will be asked to sell tickets to benefit the expenses of the pageant. Each contestant will be given fifteen tickets to sell. (Ticket cost is $15.00 whether it is for an adult or student.) Additional tickets will be given upon request. Information concerning this along with advance tickets will be given to you at the Orientation meeting. This year we will have numbered seating so it is important for your family and friends to purchase tickets early in order to get the best seating. Please emphasize this when you are selling your tickets. The girl who raises the most money in ticket sales for her division will be recognized at the pageant with either the Miss-Leadership Award or the Teen Miss-Leadership Award. Your participation in this will also count toward your Community Service hours. Contestants will have the opportunity to compete for the Miss Golden Isles People’s Choice Award or the Miss Golden Isles’ Outstanding Teen People’s Choice Award. Best Wishes will be sold in advance and during Intermission at the pageant. Your friends and family will have the opportunity to cast their votes for you! We are asking all contestants and princesses to donate one item for our Silent Auction. Some suggestions include: Gift baskets, gift cards, a cookbook from your home town, etc. of any amount will be appreciated. You will be given a Silent Auction Sheet at Orientation. A tax donation letter will be given upon request and all donors will be recognized in the pageant program. Once again, we will give younger girls (ages 5-12 years old, must be no younger than 5 and no older that 12 by the pageant date) the joy of being a Princess at the pageant. We are asking each contestant to secure at least one girl to serve as her Princess. A Princess may be a sister, cousin, niece, friend, etc. We have enclosed a Princess application form for you to pass on to the girl you choose. The cost of serving as a Princess is $50.00. Contestants are not required to pay this fee. Princesses may get sponsors. Their sponsor will also be given a PATRON DONOR ticket and will be recognized in the program. Princess applications are due back to me by Monday, November 16. So please pass the form onto your Princess as soon as possible. We will have a meeting of the Princesses on Saturday, November 21 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. following our meeting with the contestants. If you live out of town and are unable to get a Princess due to travel distance, please let us know and we will try to secure one for you. We will award the Miss Congeniality and the Teen Miss Congeniality at the pageant. You and your peers will have the opportunity to vote (at the Dress Rehearsal) for the girl in the Miss division and the girl in the Teen Miss division who has been the friendliest, kindest, and shown the best sportsmanship throughout the pageant. Enclosed is a talent request form. As soon as you know your talent, you should submit this form. You may either turn it in with your application, if you have already made your selection, or by the Orientation meeting. It is best to turn it in quickly. No two contestants can have the same music, so the first one to submit the talent request will be the one that will be permitted to perform the selection in question. The postmark date on your envelope or delivery date to me will determine when the form was submitted. Talent is limited to no longer than two minutes. (Talent is limited to I minute and 30 seconds at the Miss Georgia Pageant so you many want to consider this when choosing your talent.) You must bring your CD-R (No CD-RW-these will not work) to Alicia Benton (Production Coordinator) by the November meeting. No exceptions!!! Please be sure to have two copies made, one for us and one for you to practice with for the pageant. All contestants must provide a head and shoulders photo for the program book. If you do not have one, Tina Whaley from Memories for Tomorrow Photography will be taking these pictures for us at the Orientation. She is charging a sitting fee of $15.00. If you wish to pay by check or money order, please make payments to: Memories for Tomorrow Photography. If you have already participated in a Miss Georgia Preliminary Pageant and have a head and shoulders photo on a CD-R, please either turn it in with your entry form, email it to me or bring it to Orientation and you will not be required to have a photo done. We ask that all girls wear a light colored blouse for this photo. We would hate to leave anyone out but if you do not turn in a CD-R or have Tina make your photo, it will not go in the program. Orientation will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the North Glynn United Methodist Church, 940 Harry Driggers Blvd. (Directions included) in Brunswick. (For those of you who participated last year, it is at the same place.) Your parents are welcome to attend Orientation with you. At this meeting, you will be given your tickets for ticket sales, have your picture made for the program book (if needed), discuss the People’s Choice Award, talk about Resumes and Platforms Statements, talk about the pageant theme, discuss contracts, the opening number and all other information related to the pageant. If you have been in a Miss Georgia Preliminary and have you Resume and Platform Statement, you are welcome to either email it to me or bring it with you to the Orientation meeting. For those who have not participated in a Miss Georgia Preliminary Pageant, all contestants are required to pick a Platform to promote. A Platform may be anything that you feel strongly about. An example could be something like Juvenile Diabetes. We will talk more about Platforms at the Orientation meeting. Important Dates: Please note-We will also meet on Saturday, November 21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. to turn in required paper work, preview Miss Contestant’s swim wear and have optional Mock Interviews.
