See general information about SAH and the 2009 conference at www.thesah.org Bob Payton (chair of Community Events Planning Group) distributed a working paper defining arts in healthcare. (contact Bob for updated versions). He then gave an overview of the ideas behind a community events plan – including (but not limited to): o o o o o o o The month of April 2010 will be declared Art and Health month in the Twin Cities (Gary is working on having the mayors make this declaration)_ All arts, health and healing groups, institutions and organizations in the area will be encouraged to mount a show, conduct open-houses, produce productions, offer workshops, create materials etc. These events are primarily for the local general public (though there may be some audience-specific events. They will be so noted in the listings It will be important to have free events and activities as well as those supported by fees. These events will culminate in the national conference at the end of April The events and the conference will raise awareness about the work being done in this area and the importance of the arts in health and healing. It will also promote the participating organizations and raise awareness about their existence as well as their work. The primary tasks of this group are to: Identify participating groups Encourage participation Coordinate neighborhoods of artists Facilitate activities at home institutions Act as advocates in the community for the events and activities Be ambassadors for art and health wherever and whenever possible After discussion it was decided that he working name of the month-long event is “Art and Health: A Community Celebration” Bob offered a work flow sheet (attached) for further discussion Gary offered the first activity to be part of the Art and Health celebration – a gallery show at the Boynton Health Center featuring local artists creating works about art and health. Additional items to be calendared will be discussed at next meeting. Next meeting: 9:30 – 10:00 a.m., March 19 (Preceding the MAINH bimonthly meeting) Classrooms 1 and 2 in the Guthrie Learning Center on the eighth floor of the Guthrie Theater. To Do: - ALL: Think about what you and your groups could do to participate in this event. - ALL: Begin to prepare list of groups to whom you would be willing to send an announcement about “Art and Health” month. - BOB: Set up new Google Group especially for the Community Events Planning Committee and email the address to all participants. - CANDACE: Write a summary of the meeting and compile contact information about participants. These to be posted by Bob on the Google Group site - SARAH: Develop a registration form for each group to use when registering their event. Write a news release or announcement for the arts and healthcare communities, with examples of possible activities, encouraging them to showcase their program(s) and/or create new ones for April 2010. (Bob: by March 19) 2. Develop an event registration form. (Sarah: by March 19) 3. Create a new page on the MAIHN website for the community celebration. This will include the announcement and event registration form. Post a link on the MAIHN home page to this community celebration page. (Bob: by March 19) 4. Compile a list of contacts. We encourage everyone in MAIHN to do this, utilizing grass roots, professional and e-mail networks. (All) 5. Utilizing volunteers in the network, send the news release/announcement and registration form (or a link to the registration form) to all the contacts. (All) 6. When folks respond we add them into the MAIHN Google group (this is how we will communicate) (Bob) 7. When the completed registration form comes back we add each art event into the master list, which is posted on the MAIHN website. (Sarah) 8. Send a news release out to the media ahead of time along with the master list, if appropriate, and a link to the website We also encourage people to publicize their own events through their own channels. (We coordinate PR with the conference planning committee). 9. Events happen. (All) 10. 10.We ask people to keep track of how things went: how many people came, stories, etc. by sending us a final tally form, in case we want to do this again.
