Energy Conservation and Home Weatherization
A Fact Sheet
The Kansas City Metropolitan EPA ARRA Brownfields Job Training Partnership is a three-year
program to train unemployed and underemployed individuals in the Kansas City metropolitan
area for careers in environmental remediation and energy conservation. The partnership is
funded by the Environmental Protection Agency through economic stimulus funds.
The lead applicant in the Brownfields Job Training Partnership is OAI, Inc., a Chicago-based nonprofit with a 30 year history in vocational training. OAI has been conducting training in
environmental remediation in the Kansas City area for the past 12 years. Partners include: The
Metropolitan Energy Center, Era Environmental & Safety, the City of Kansas City, the City of
Independence, the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council and Connections to Success. As the project
develops, other organizations are joining in the partnership as well.
The Training Program will include the following:
Building Science
HVAC Diagnostics and Combustion Safety
Weather-stripping
Insulation
Asbestos and Lead Awareness
10-hour OSHA Construction Safety
City Section 3, Licensing and Home Weatherization
processes and forms
Pressure and Thermal Boundaries
Weatherization Measures
Air-Sealing Techniques
Dense-Pack Sidewall Techniques
40-hour Hazardous Waste Removal
First Aid/CPR
This Training Program is offered for Contractors who are interested in competing for Home
Weatherization work, as well as for Workers who are interested in finding a job in Home
Weatherization. The Energy Conservation & Home Weatherization Training Program will begin in
July and run through September 2010. We have space to train 25 individuals.
Requirements
Contractors wishing to participate in the Job Training Program must:
Have previous construction experience
Have no prior felony convictions
Have at least 3 references
Be interested in competing for work in Energy Conservation/Home Weatherization
Individuals seeking employment who want to participate in the Job Training Program must:
Be committed to seeking employment within the field
Be at least 18 years old
Have a high school diploma or a GED
Have a driver’s license and access to a car
Have no prior felony convictions
Pass a drug test, background check and a general physical examination
Be able to lift at least 50 pounds

If you are interested in participating in the Energy Conservation and Home Weatherization
Training, please turn in the contact sheet that is attached and plan to attend one of the
following Information Sessions:
6:00 - 9:00 pm, June 7 at the Gregg-Klice Center, 16th and Paseo Boulevard, KCMO
6:00 - 9:00 pm, June 8 at the Independence City Hall, Conference Room D (lower level), 111 E.
Maple Avenue, Independence
6:00 - 9:00 pm, June 15 at the Green Impact Zone offices, 4600 Paseo Boulevard, KCMO

 Valid Photo Identification
 Social Security Card
 High School Diploma or GED
 Kansas City, Missouri Business License (if you have one)
Individuals Seeking Employment in Energy Conservation/Home Weatherization:
 Valid Photo Identification
 Social Security Card
 High School Diploma or GED
 Proof of Unemployment (award letter for any benefits received including unemployment,
social security, disability, food stamps, or TANF)
- or  Proof of Underemployment (last two paystubs from employer)
