On Saturday 4th July we held our annual Men’s Open Triples Tournament. Twenty teams competed to win the
Past Mayors Cup and prize money in glorious sunshine. After a nail-biting last session, the team from
Medway Magistrates Bowls Club (Dave Abrathat, Mick Redman and Roger Whitebread) held on to their lead
to win the competition by just one point. In second place was a team from three clubs (Dave Chapman from
Sturdee, Ron Hedgecock from Civil Service and Trevor Skinner from Chatham) who, despite winning all
three of their games, couldn’t quite win enough ends in their final match to overtake the Magistrates. It was
very close though and was all decided on the last end – much to the relief of the scorers who thought they
would have difficulty in separating the top two teams to decide the winner. Third place went to Len Millen,
Alan Jones and Michael Doorey from Townsend Hook.
Thanks must go to everyone who worked hard behind the scenes to ensure that the event was a success.
A few words of welcome from our President
Working hard in the kitchen
Support from the Chatham members (or were they just there for the beer?)
There were some close heads. See if you can spot the jack!
Medway Magistrates – behind bars!
Almost time for the bell.
A break for lunch.
The games in progress.
The bar was kept busy as it was a very hot day – and the beer supplies almost lasted until the end!
A tense moment for the scorers.
Third Place Alan Jones, Len Millen and Michael Doorey from Townsend Hook.
The Runners-up. Trevor Skinner (Chatham), Ron Hedgecock (Civil Service) and Dave Chapman (Sturdee).
The Winners! – Mick Redman, Dave Abrathat and Roger Whitebread from Medway Magistrates
