Gold Star Counseling School
Knox Community Schools have been Gold Star Counseling Schools since 2004. As a
gold star counseling corporation, we have changed guidance counseling from a
position into a data driven curriculum much like what is taught in a Language Arts
or Math class. With the assistance of our faculty, guidance counselors ensure that
students are exposed to everything from good bus behavior to applying for college.
The state has outlined a guidance curriculum where we can measure mastery of
career, academic and social skills for all grade levels. To gain the Indiana Gold Star
designation, all three guidance departments had to gather data and analyze
whether their students had reached the required benchmarks.
Through qualifying for Gold Star, all three schools have again been presented with
an American School Counseling Association National Award for their guidance
programs. The R.A.M.P. (Recognized ASCA Measurable Program) award is given to
schools for making an exemplary commitment to comprehensive school counseling
programs.
The RAMP designation, awarded to schools that align with the criteria set in the
ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a
comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary
educational environment. This year 84 schools in the Nation and 10 in the State
received the award.
Patricia Nailor, Ed.D., ASCA's 2009-10 president, said this year's recipients are to be
commended for their dedication to serving all students and demonstrating how
effective school counseling programs can make a difference in students' lives. "This
year's RAMP honorees have shown their commitment to students and the school
counseling profession," Nailor said. "This designation distinguishes these schools
and encourages school counselors nationwide to continue to strive for success."
The 85 schools will be honored with the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP)
designation during a special ceremony at the American School Counselor
Association's annual conference in Boston, Mass on July 5 for making an exemplary
commitment to comprehensive school counseling programs.
